RP: animal lover Ferhem looks for a pet or two

After having done some research on hell hounds for a possible future expedition, Ferhem thought long and hard about how to optimise his chances of survival were he to indeed encounter the beasts. After going through the various possibilities in his mind, he decided that it might be worth investing in a trained beast to distract the creatures. In fact, these trained animals might be useful for more than facing hell hounds. The more he thought about it the more he liked the idea. Also, he thinks that a way of hiding one's scent might be worth looking into. He does some research in the White Horses library regarding these two subjects and then heads to the Unicorns Company.  There, after introducing himself and exchanging a few words about the weather, he gets to the point:  "The main reason for my coming here is because I've heard you are the best hunters in Maladon. That's why I thought you might know a thing or two about survival in the wild. If I wanted to learn about, say, hiding one's scent from animals, who would be the person to ask? I'm also interested in purchasing war trained animals. Would your company be the one to ask regarding this or would you know of someone who sells these ?". Ferhem adjusts his mask and waits for an answer.

A hunter called Kedlas sits beside Ferhem and says Bar magic there is no way to hide your scent from an animal, save by staying downwind of it. All the other nonsense about masking scent and using water is folly; in fact they make it easier to track you. The Horses invented a spell to remove your scent but you'd need to be able to read scrolls to cast it. An animal companion; now that is possible! What were ye looking for?

Ferhem tilts his head to the side and is silent for a few seconds while he carefully examines Kedlas. Apparently satisfied with what he sees he says: "Hmm, I will need to inquire about that scroll. As for the... companion... I'm looking for a fearless creature, something accustomed to fighting and which would not back away from any sort of monster. It needs to be able to fight in the dark and also intelligent enough to learn a few commands. Do you know anything like this?".

Hmm; there is such a beast. A Sintran hound has dark-vision and I have seen one face down a charging boar. They are fearless and relentless; but not cheap and they need a firm hand. Are ye interested? I know a trainer who has two for sale.
Ferhem's eyes glint with a malevolent fire, "Yes... yes... this should do nicely... can you arrange a meeting with this trainer of yours?".

Oh he is hear now! Marais; this man would like to see a few of your hounds. All tall lean man with dark hair looks round at this Hounds you say; who is it who wants them. They don't come cheap and I won't sell less than two because these animals become unmanageable if they feel alone. 100 gp for a pair.
That'd be me - says Ferhem as he eyes the newcomer - 100 gp you say? For that price they better shit gold! Well, you better show me the creatures on which I'm about to spend a fortune.

I'm afraid they are quite mundane; but tenacious for all of that. Here tney are: Hounds have the stats of Worgs and know the commands: Attack. Stay and Come (DC 10 Animal Handling check)

"Hmmm.. I suppose I could do worse" - Ferhem hands a small pouch to the man - "You'll find 100gp and a few extra for your troubles". Then he scratches the back of his head and says with visible effort: "Listen... Marais, was it? I don't usually get along very well with animals... I'd like to get better at it, what with having a horse and the hounds now. You are clearly someone experienced at this sort of thing. Could you teach me? I can provide the animals" - he points to the hounds - "and the gold" - he rubs his fingers together. --- OOC: Ferhem is loo king to get trained in Animal Handling. In addition, he would like to do the training with his newly acquired Sintran hounds so that it becomes easier to handle them during adventures.

I could mate................but it'd cost you. You have a fair bit to learn from the look of things. OOC: it will cost you 300 XP, 1 month (45 days) during which you can only train one other thing, and will cost 100 gp.
Excellent - he pulls out another bag and hands it to the man -  shall we get started? OOC: Ferhem  pays the required gold amount and XP and will spend the following month training to become adept at handling his Sintran hounds (as well as other animals).
