Still new to Roll20 and have a few questions

Hey guys, I'm still new to Roll20 because for the life of me I just cannot find a group to join.... or I guess more accurately I never get invited to join any of the groups I apply for, ever. So I have a few questions, just to make sure I've got things straight. 1. When you're invited to a group, will it be something you get through your PM, or will it pop up on the home page, or in the "My Games" section, or what? And do you typically just get invited right into the grid, or is there some kind of "pre-game lobby" of sorts? 2. I hear there's an inbuilt voice chat system? When you join a group does it just automatically connect or is there some kind of settings I'll have to adjust? 3. Are there any "Do's and Don't's" when applying for games? Cause I always seem to be ignored, not sure what I'm doing wrong if anything, I could just perpetually be late to apply every single time, I guess. 4. Sometimes it seems like some of the posts on the LFG section just pop up then the guy who posted it never shows back up, no comments or updates or anything. Does this mean he's just not there and doesn't care at all, or is he just PMing the people he's inviting then ignoring the post once he's got a full group? Thanks to anyone who's willing to take the time to help me out. I just perpetually feel like I'm in the dark on this site when looking for groups :/

Hi Ben! Keep trying, you'll find a game. While 5E is the most popular game with the most listings, there is a high ratio of players to DM's. The other games that interest you might have more GM's that are looking for players . (more openings for players, I should say). Remember to check both LFG Forum, and the LFG search system, to help you find a game, here is the search: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/search/ 1. Yes, when invited to Join you will receive a Notification (the pink box at the top-right of Roll20). Alternatively the GM might send you a Private Message with a link, this would also generate a Notification. There is a lobby of sorts indeed, called the Game Details page, that lists the GM's and Players who are in the group, and there is a private Game Forum there, and a Join Game button (which you use to enter the tabletop). 2. The built-in voice and video is enabled (ON) by default, unless the GM has switched it off for everyone before entering. Your web browser normally will still require you to agree to Microphone/Webcam access for the webpage, before it actually starts working. Also it won't turn on if you are alone in the tabletop, only turns on when multiple people enter. Lastly, any Player can enable/disable voice or video for yourself, in each tabletop under the Settings. 3. There is a lot of different advice for applying to games. Someone else will come along to comment on this. You can search for other threads in Roll20 forums discussing this. Since you already filled out your Roll20 Profile Bio, and it looks like your applications are more than just "Can I join?", it seems you are on the right path already and just need to keep looking and trying. 4. It could mean either of those, or something else. They certainly might be PM'ing the invitations. It would be nice if they would say "sorry you didn't make it" or even better if they could tell you why, but often those not invited don't hear anything back. Being a GM takes time and effort, so they may be focused on getting their game going with the small group that got invited, rather than managing applications and replies.
Thank you so much for all of this information, and yeah I'll keep trying! Glad to hear I' not doing anything incorrectly as well lol So thanks again :)

I typically thank (insert deity of choice here) that I didn't get into those games; I did once and it was a horrible, horrible experience.

I look for GM's who post detailed info about what they're looking for in a player and are descriptive about they're game style. Those are the ones I apply to. I also read through any already existing applications to see what the GM's response to those might have been like. It's really just based on how it feels after that point.
Hmm.... good advice, but out of the dozen or so games I've applied to, only 2 of them had GMs who actually responded to ANYONE lol Even when they have had detailed descriptions of their styles and their own worlds of adventure/narrative, they sometimes still don't have a single post for me to look at, likely cause they just PM the people they're interested in :P I'm probably just really unlucky atm, I'll keep what you've said in mind when looking from now on, so thanks again :)
