Rolling things off character sheets and keeping the results hidden from players

Hello I am still trying to learn everything roll20 can do, is there a way to roll things off of character sheets and keep the results hidden from the players? Some systems have really complex roll mechanics sometimes, and I just want to see if there is a way to roll these oiff the character sheet without the players being able to see the results.

The answer depends on what sheet you are using. The D&D 5e sheets and the pathfinder sheet have NPC sections that create abilities that are rolled to the GM only. Even if the sheet doesn't make them for you, you can always put "/w gm " before the call to the ability in question.

D&D3.5E lets you get under the hood too. Another trick is to /w Gm @{character|trait}

Note that players who use /gmroll or /w gm will still see what's sent to the GM. It is not possible for anyone to send something that (at least) they themselves cannot see to the Text Chat without the assistance of an API Script . (Access to the API is available only in games in which the game's Creator currently has an active Pro subscription.) If a GM rolls uses a roll button (configured to whisper its output to the GM) on a player's sheet, the player(s) in control of that sheet will not see that output.

Good clarification Silvyre.
Is there a way to configure the whisper on any sheet without Pro?

You can build a macro to do it for you through something like: /w gm @{selected_token|stat_roll_here} which is easier to do for things like Saving Throw sorts of ideas than big families of Skills. just put it on the Macro page and call it through the Universal Buttons
there probably isn't a functiom for this but what about rolls between GM and a single player that the others arent allowed to see.

/w "player name" [[inline roll]] That should do what you need

Oh, yeah, sorry thought you were asking for a way for the GM to roll so a specific player only could see it
