Scripts need to have better installation instructions

Team, I think you are assuming that all users have programming knowledge, I am having some hard time trying to understand how to install scripts. I see two files, a .js and a.json do I need to install both? Also, I am having some issues with the it's a trap script, the perception option is not working and instead is pulling the tokens to the trap, I installed the it's a trap script in the menu, plus the 3.5 theme script. please advise. thanks, Moises H

Moises. If you are having problems with the trap script you should post in the  trap script thread .

The .json file is simply details on the script that is used by the one-click install system and/or the repository to keep track of information such as version, previous versions, known conflicts, and required scripts. they stand for javascript and javascript object notation respectively. I would highly recommend using the one-click install method for a script if it is available in the drop-down. This way you keep up to date with the script and you don't have to worry about copy and paste induced errors. Also, as Pat says, post up your question on It's a trap to Stephens thread. He's very responsive about helping people out with issues.

Thanks guys, so the .json file is only informative and the only script I need to install is the .js file, correct? I want to remove the Admiral Ackbar phrase from the script and replace it with The DM says or something like that. So in this case I just need to change the .js, replace it, save it and that will be it?  Thanks.

Pretty much. I had some help changing things in the generic script to say the DM instead of Admiral Ackbar and have the tokens drop to the map layer instead of the token layer when it was activated and iconed to change layers. I can send you a copy of the script but remember it is just for the generic not the 3.5 theme script.

Yep, I did the same thing for mine too. Really should mention to Stephen that it'd be nice to be able to customize that without having to edit the code.
Thanks for your support guys, really appreciate it.

I just coupled all my traps with a recording of Admiral Akbar and his famous catchphrase, my players genuinely love setting off traps just to hear it! On topic though, it would be useful one-click option to have a couple of options for that bit....
