Hey there, currently looking for a player or two to fill out the roster on a D&D 5e game that my group recently started in the Eberron setting. What was meant to be a four man party ended up dropping down to two, and while we’ve had fun with a session of buddy cop antics, a bit more variety in the group would be nice. We're an established group who've been playing together for years, so expect some dumb injokes to sail right over your head, but we're pretty easy to get along with. -Game Style- Our games are run entirely via text, for both OOC and IC chatter. A decent level of comfort and skill at roleplaying via text is pretty crucial; we tend to run fairly roleplay heavy games with a lot of character interaction, so people who aren’t so into that side of tabletop games should probably look elsewhere. I can’t emphasise the comfort bit enough. I’ve had so many people SAY that they’re fine with text based roleplay but end up giving me the most stilted, awkward stuff ever in actual play. I want someone who likes text based RP, not someone tolerating it because they’re desperate for a game to join. I’m a pretty lenient GM, if you want to do cool stuff I’m probably more likely to just throw appropriate modifiers or house rules at you and tell you to go nuts, rather than say no. Mistakes are still punished though, and I don’t really pull punches; death’s totally a possibility if you screw up, although resurrection might be on the cards with some kinda story penalty involved (until you’re rich enough to do it yourself, anyway). -Campaign Info- Our campaign’s set in the Eberron setting, and familiarity with the setting is pretty important. Ideally I’d like someone already familiar with Eberron, but if you want to read up, I’d advise getting a hold of the 3.5e Eberron Campaign Guide, it’s probably the best introduction to the setting. The campaign’s intended to be pretty pulpy and heroic in terms of tone, with an equal mix of action, social and investigation stuff. The campaign opened with the players fighting off a high stakes train robbery, during which they set an airship on fire. That might give you a bit of context for the kinda pulpy action stuff you can expect. There’s an overarching plot involved in this campaign, with some vague plans behind it, but it’s all fairly malleable; I’m not a very railroading GM, I like to let things evolve around the actions of the players. Currently the players are working to figure out why agents of the Lord of Blades conducted an elaborate train heist to steal a magical artifact unearthed by a House Cannith expedition, and hopefully figuring out to stop whatever villainous plan is involved in that. So lots of investigation and intrigue stuff going on right now. I typed up a summary of the first two sessions here , which might help you get a feel for our games. -The Party- We have two party members at the moment. Alestair d’Ghallanda is a halfling fighter belonging to House Ghallanda, and bearing a dragonmark, making him a figure with a lot of influence. He’s every bit the heroic, charismatic knight. Gameplay wise, he’s using the Cavalier martial archetype from Unearthed Arcana, making him pretty powerful when he’s mounted on his mastiff, Beauregard. Dorius Dee Davandi is a gnome wizard from Zilargo, a student of the Library of Korranberg. Like any Zilargo gnome, he’s an information sponge, always looking to dig up any secrets that might further his own academic career. He’s got a healthy blend of utility spells and burning things to the ground spells. -Rules Stuff- We play 5e without many modifications. Ability scores are worked out using point buy or the provided arrays, we don’t roll them. Third party and Unearthed Arcana content is totally allowed, but ask me about it first. Also, we’ve got house rules to add in the Eberron races, you can find those here . We don’t really track XP either, I just award levels when I feel it’s appropriate, leads to less book keeping and gives me a bit more direct control over the progression. We’re currently at level 5, and you will be too; I don’t really believe in making people start from level 1. We also play pretty fast and loose with rules, I prefer a game that flows well over one that suits the rules 100 percent of the time. I’ll often make houserule calls on the spot to keep things moving. IRules lawyers need not apply. -Session times- This is currently a bit up in the air. We’ve never really been the type of group to set a consistent, weekly session time or anything like that. We tend to play on weekends, although weekday sessions happen from time to time. Our usual starting time is around 1 PM AEST (GMT+10), and we usually play until about five. You’ll probably need to be a little flexible to suit this campaign, but as long as you can be sure you’ll be around during those times of day some days of the week, we should be able to work something out. We usually play once a week or so, although sometimes it gets more frequent if we all have time. -What I want from you- As long as you think you suit the campaign after reading all of the above, I’m probably interested in hearing from you. I’m probably going to be pretty picky, considering this is an existing group I’ve been gaming with for years. If you think this campaign suits you, shoot me a PM or post below. Ideally I’d like to chat directly, so if you give me a Discord, Skype or Steam handle, that’d be great. If you can come to me with an interesting character concept, that’d be excellent. No need to have a sheet ready to go or anything, but a solid idea of what sort of character you want to play would be excellent. Just don’t get to committed to all the minute details, a little wiggle room will be needed to fit you smoothly into the game. We can work out how to smoothly slot you into the story and stuff too, although ideas on that front would be handy too (I can let you in on some of the plans for next session). Please only apply if you actually think you can attend sessions on a regular basis without scheduling being a nightmare. Scheduling is the death of too many campaigns.
