We're looking to jump into this game the week of OCTOBER 2nd, but that may get pushed back a week depending on schedules. I'm looking to run a Fate Core Homebrew game with an established group of friends. There are currently 4 of us, including myself, and we’re looking to add 1-2 more players after one of the other regulars dropped out due to some personal issues. He may be coming back at some point but in the meantime we want to keep playing. What we’re looking for: -Someone who can be reliable. We normally play on a week night, currently set at THURSDAY from 8-11 pm EST, because we all have pretty busy home/work/life schedules. We set aside this time to play because we want to play pretend. However, that doesn’t mean that we don’t sometimes devolve into side jokes or diversions. NOTE: The day that we meet, Thursday, may change in the beginning of October. One of the players is getting a new schedule that he won't know about until October 4th so we may have to readjust. If we do change, it will be from Thursday to either Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday. Please keep this in mind when applying. -Someone who WANTS to play. We’re a rules light group full of people who enjoy getting into a game. If you’re looking to min/max, level creep, munchkin, or whatever you want to call it, this game definitely isn’t for you. Fate is a pretty rules light system and we’re even more so rules light. We won’t have any battle mats, minis, or squares to count for movement. If something sounds cool or makes sense, I’ll call for a roll and we’ll see how well (or poorly) you do. You don’t have to be an actor who lives a character role, but it’d be best if you weren’t afraid to do some role playing. Someone who wants to have fun. With all of this said, we get together and play because we like to get together and play. We have fun when we play and if we didn’t, we probably wouldn’t be playing. If you join up and you’re not having fun, don’t feel obligated to stick around. There won’t be any hurt feelings and it’s better to move on sooner rather than later. -We use both Skype and Google Hangouts to communicate in and out of the game. Being familiar and able to use both of those programs is a must. What we’re NOT looking for: -Rules lawyers. God, I get enough of that at work so I don’t need it in my pretend time. When the GM (which will be me this time) makes a call, that’s the call. You can make a pitch on why you think it should be something else, but there shouldn’t be a 5 minute discussion on why you should use one skill or ability in place of another. We’re not tyrants but something like that just saps the fun out of a scene/game. -Munchkins or min/max-ers. Fate doesn’t really have much of a “level up” system, so what you get is usually what you get. There are always options and opportunities to tweak or shift things, but you’re not going to go from girl to god in a Fate game. A little about us: We've been gaming together on roll20 for about 3 1/2 years now. We started out playing 4e and have jumped around to several different systems trying out new things as they strike our fancy. After I introduced the group to Fate Core, it is become more or less our system of choice. There are a few players in the US, one in Australia, and one in Germany. Because of our geographic and personal diversity, it is important to be able to stick to a schedule as much as we can. We all have lives and have things come up, but if you don’t think you’re going to be able to regularly and reliably make it every week to play, then this game likely isn’t for you. A little about the game & Fate: “You awake in a room. Where are you? What happened here? What's going on? Who are these other people in here with you? More importantly, who are you!? As these questions race through your mind, you try to remember how you got here, what happened, and what's going on. You're rewarded with nothing - everything is blank. The realization that you can't even remember who you are, even just a name, is the most frightening thing. The others are starting to wake up. Maybe they have some idea what's going on and who the hell you are.” The setting itself is a variation of Victorian England. We’ll be playing a Homebrew game based off Fate Core. If you don’t have any experience with Fate Core, that’s okay. Most of the rules we’ll be using can be obtained for free online and the rest of us are rather familiar with the rules. I’ll link to a free/pay what you want download of the rules as well as a SRD that pretty much explains everything you need to know. Fate is quite a different approach if you’re used to a D&D/Pathfinder rules system and isn’t for everyone, but it’s what has worked the best for us. If you haven’t played Fate at all, at least a casual looking over of the rules or the SRD is a must. http://www.evilhat.com/home/fate-core-downloads/ https://fate-srd.com/fate-core/basics Fate is different from traditional RPGs (again, think D&D or Pathfinder) in that you don’t have any attributes or ability scores. Everything is based off aspects (or what makes your character your character – “Hedonistic Playboy Thief,” “Former Professional Racecar Driver,” or “War Hero with a rap sheet a mile long”). Any roll you make will be a skill modified by your ability in the skill and potentially changed based on who your character is and what they know. Normally Fate has a group sit down and get together to create the world and movers and shakers in the game you’ll be playing in. We’re ditching that to try out a new premise: You’ll all be playing amnesiacs who wake in a room having no idea how they got there, who each other are, or even who you are. This puts quite a big twist on the average RPG or even Fate formula, but it’s an idea I’ve been kicking around for a while that I want to give a try. Luckily (or unluckily) for you, this means that you won’t really have to do much of any character prep before jumping in. A basic understanding of the rules would be helpful, but it’s not something that is going to hold you back should you seem like a great fit for the group. A brief rules overview, either at the first game or sometime before hand, would be helpful for anyone who doesn’t want to be pushed into the deep end right away. If you’re still here after this wall of text and interested in the game, apply below. Tell us a little bit about yourself (age, what you want to be called, location, time zone, etc), what RPG experience you have, and why you think you'd be a good fit for the group and the game. For shits, also let us know why you're applying and something you'd hope to do/experience/uncover in the game. We'll look over the applicants and contact those we think would be a good fit. Please apply under the listing. I will check that more regularly and it will easily keep all of the applications in one place. https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/57750/fate-core...
