DM- Interest check in D&D 3.5 basic box game for newbies

This is an interest check to see how many would be interested in playing the 3.5 basic box adventure to give D&D a try. This game would be to help new players try out D&D and we will run the adventure that comes with the D&D 3.5 basic box. So Id prefer if we could get a group entirely of players who havent been able to try D&D yet but wanted to or that are really new to it. System we will be using: D&D 3.5 (no, it is not the same as pathfinder) Settings: Standard setting. Rules used for characters: Core rules only. Time for the game: Not yet set, but the game will most likely be held 17:00-23:00 GMT Gamedays: not yet set. Please use GMT timezone references when using times in this thread.

I'm definitely interested.
Great :) what times and days would you be able to play and have you ever played D&D before? ^^

I've both played and DM'd 4th edition campaigns. I'm currently reaching the end of my studies so I'll have a great deal of spare time very soon. I'm based in Sweden (GMT+1), I'll be free on all evenings 17:00 and up, though I would prefer sometime during the weekend. I have a high quality microphone, great English skills and a clear accent as well.
Ok :) sounds good :) and as I am in sweden as well there shouldnt be any trouble with that.
I would be very interested, not really a total noob, but it would be my first time playing on this site, so i guess that's a good start (: Sundays are the best day for me. Oh, i'm from Denmark (GMT+1), have a mic and a webcam.

I've got a buddy on the line at the moment who is interested, he's not new to 3.5 but he tells me he hasn't run the basic box before. I'll tell him to make his own post here in time.
Hi I'm also interested, I'm a complete noob so I might need some help setting up a character but I have made a 4e character once
I am also very interested in this.

Scratch that, my buddy pulled out.
I'd willing to play. I have a lot of experience with 3.5. It's the system I'm most experienced with. If you need a new player I'd love to play.

So, how many players are you bringing in? I think 4-5 would be a good number.
I am the complete noob you are looking for. I've played one game of pathfinder and am in the process of reading through the 3.5 rulebook. I am pretty much available anytime on the weekends but am only available really late weekdays.
I'm actually going to have to withdraw my submissoin. It looks like I'm gonna be with these guys http://community.roll20.net/discussion/4089/noob-lf-pathfinder-group#Item_7 looking for a GM. Thanks anyways.
Hello. I'm completely new, both to the site and to D&D. I literally just made my account. Saw this thread on the right-bottom screen, and clicked it. I have played D&D RPGs before, but only actual games, not the board game. Never did it. I was always interested in playing a RPG board game, but the friends i have aren't really interested in that. In the past i have looked for online solutions, but i never could find anything good for digital-only. I recently found out about roll20.net, and well, here i am. I have a microphone, understands and (partly) speaks English, and i live GMT+1. I'm still in highschool so i have plenty of time.
I'm not a noob, nor a fan of feats. If the campaign is restricted to the basic box only though, that sounds pretty doable.
Great to see so many interested, however this is meant to be a "gateway-game" and for complete newbies and almost complete newbies who want to learn how to and try playing D&D at a slightly slower pace, thus newbies will be prioritised. I will take 4 players and keep the rest as backups if people dont show. T M. Yeah, Ive seen your posts on roll20. I mostly prefer AD&D 2nd ed myself, but as most people are seriously damaged from computor games and so on, they have a hard time with AD&D.
I hear you. Feats make you buy books that ostensibly let 'you' do extra stuff. In reality, with every new feat, that is one less thing that you can do, unless you 'buy' the feat. "Ooo! shiny!. This new feat "Extra-transcendent quad wielding lets me wield an extra weapon from every appendage and orifice, granting an extra attack each at double my full attack bonus." Okay, I'll shut up for now. Kudos on helping the noobs.
Well... as a wizard I liked the "strong back" or whatever it was called feat in 3.0 as it gave me a boost to my carrying capacity (wich was horrific). But it was even worse in 2nd edition, and the funny thing is that I didnt really care, sure I got encumbered by eating too much... but yeah, I still think 2nd edition was more fun. what does "kudos" mean? ^^
kudos = "good for you" Too easy to house rule the old stuff. Not only that, but the classic wizardy fix for your enc problem is..err.....magic? (Golem, tensers floating disc, bag of holding) Not only that, but having a strong back means that you are strong...er. Travois? Int check to pack better? etc. etc. etc.
Another example using interpretation and/or house rules. "Why can't my fighter detect traps?" answer "Do you have a saving throw?" response "Yeah" there you go. "I want to do it as good as a theif" answer "be a theif" response "But thieves don't fight as well" answer "higher level thieves fight better than lower level fighters. How long are we going to do this" answer "Shut up. I hate you."
Indeed. I mostly used donkeys until I could afford/find/research a bag of holding or the likes. Maybe we should try setting up a 2nd edition game in the future.
Well, most of the rules are out there, in some form or another, legal and free. Another cool thing about old school, and the new stuff really, is that the shoppers/munchkins tend to leave, the players tend to stay, imaginative players. Everybody wins.
I already have the books though. (I even have the... first "books" of D&D rules). But yeah, It shouldnt be to hard to set up a 2nd edition game :)
I meant for those interested in playing. Easy access.
If you have the original digest box D&D, I hope you have that under wraps. Pretty expensive, and rare, even in crummy condition. Don't even know what a pristine set would go for.
I think mine is in my basement somewhere. Noone really plays D&D in sweden, most dont know what it is... Ive been thinking about throwing it away a few times I think... or giving it to the library... but it holds too much sentimental value.
I would definitely be interested! I have never had a chance to play tabletop RPGs, but I've always wanted to try! My schedule is open at any time Fridays through Sundays. Although I'd prefer to learn 4e because of how easy I've heard it is to learn, I'll take anything I can get! lol Count me in, if you'll have me.
Tengu, for your own sake, if nothing else, PLEASE have those books priced before you decide to chuck them. Oh, and yeah, the down vote, it was me for such a nutty idea. Keeping them is the best call unless you really need the money, in which case how often do you actually get insurance where you actually get something as opposed to preventing the loss of something?
Yaaay! So we have 3 newbies for a game. This is looking good. Do you guys have any idea about what kind of character you would want to play? (Strong warrior, cunning and skillfull character or a magician with power over the cosmic energies? :O) TM: I just looked the boxes up on ebay... and its insane :O Its just... pamplets?... who would pay so much for something like that?

As I mentioned, I made a Ranger.
im interested in this but i have little to know knowldge and i own no books, ive played with friends before but that is it
I'm thinking of making a skilled and cunning character, a halfling thief. I'm torn whether to turn him into a fighter/thief later on, or have him start following a god of some kind. I was gonna give him a bow, but since we have a Ranger, I'll stick to the good ole daggers. And, like Talon, I know nothing of the rules or mechanics beyond what I've learned from reading the Forgotten Realms fiction novels.

When we have a full group we should move on to some other place to discuss the game, like Skype.
So erhmm.... what now? Is it possible for me to join? Do i need to make a character, like Ludvig did? Or first set a time, in Skype f.e.?
I'd like to join in if possible. I only played D&D like three times before this so would be considered a newbie right? My Timezone is -5:00 GMT by the way, or EST for those who don't know.

Tengu, have you picked four players yet?
So any updates on this yet?
Mr. Tengu seems to have gone dark. Pity. :(
