group (still) looking for GM

hi, since this forum opened i have found a group looking to play pathfinder, however...we can't find a GM. if someone is willing to gm a weekly game on saterdays it would be really helpful.
anyone?
I'm also looking for a group, but as a player. If you get a GM i'm up to play.
i may be able to rope a friend or two who (kind of) know the game into playing as well, if we can't find anyone else, so i guess we just need a GM at this point (although a new player or two in case i can't get my friends in would be nice). anyways welcome aboard abelard, this makes 2.
Hey how about three? I don't think I'd make a great GM but I can join in if it's on Saturdays. Fridays I'm only available past 7pm PDT so I'm sure that counts me out of any Friday sessions. :x
i was only planing on once a week anyways, so we could do Saturdays. still need a gm though. anyways the player count has gone up to 3, welcome zack.
Sweet. I'll see what I can't dig up as far as a GM. No guarantees though.
cool, i'll talk to my one pal to see if we can get the numbers up to 4.
At the risk of creating a glut of players with no GMs, I'd be interested in a newbie game as well. My availability is rarely consistent but if everyone agrees on a common time I'll do what I can to free it up. (GMT -8 Pacific Time)
how do you convert GMT into EST?
You'd be three hours ahead of me, so you'd be GMT -5. I often use Google when faced with a modifier I do'nt recognize.
oh, pacific time... how did i miss that.. anyways i should try and come up with a time, we are doing Saturdays... what works for you guys, i'm good after 11:00 A.M EST although i would prefer afternoons)
I'm good 12 PM PDT and up so that's 3 PM EST.
talking to my pal, he isn't sure if he's in, but said he would be okay around 3:00 EST if he is, which is ironically what Zack said, huh.
GM yes, crunchy rules, esp. featmaster / 3.0 + and derivatives, no.
....?
Likely better off playing, willing to run, pref. one reliable/solo player to start build on. Not big on crunchy featy games like 3.0+ and derivatives. Spend too much time and energy on shopping lists, math, not enough on story, and character. Rules minimalist type, and only those that reinforce story, setting, and character. (presuming the ".... ?" was directed this way.
i just don't understand what crunchy rules means... we are playing pathfinder if that has anything to do with it...
Crunchy = lots of fiddly bits (encyclopedic rules and refs, shopping lists of feats/abilities/powers/items/ rules redundancy (engineering wise at least) e.g. Roll a threat, then roll to confirm but, no wait, it is immune unless it is an odd thursday. TOC refs are in cm/inches... Pathfinder = more intelligent than its 'daddy', but yeah. Most dig it though.
so... huh? what i'm getting is... less combat focus...? i'm sorry i just don't understand what it is you are trying to say.

Tailspin, what I believe T M. is saying is that D&D 3.0/3.5 and Pathfinder (which is based on D&D 3.5) are very rules intensive. 'Crunch' is a term used to describe rules as opposed to 'Fluff' which is used to describe flavor. Many people prefer a game system which is rules-light. 3.X and Pathfinder are rules moderate (some consider them rules heavy). For rules heavy one can look at the old Rolemaster RPG. As you discovered, it can take quite awhile to get up to speed and set up for Pathfinder. Quite a lot of 'fiddly bits' as T M. put it. Personally, I like such games. Then again, I am a wargamer who also role plays. Sometimes I would like a rules light game. Especially when playing with newbies such as yourself. But, for that one could use the Pathfinder Boxed Set. - Gauss
i am trying to decide if this will work or not. i don't want to leave out rules now and get caught of guard by them in a future game, but it is true some (if not all) of us are fairly new to table top RPGs and may fair better with less rules (although i didn't mind during my first game)
The Mod called it. With all of the books, feats, prestige classes etc. though, Rulemonster can't compete with the 3.0 + crowd anymore, with one caveat. CHARTS. d20 wise, a more flexible, does everything with one book that the others do with a wall of same, M&M and the true20 derivative seems a bit more rational. At least you get a more unified mechanic, and a vastly more useful rule set, with much less rules, that do more things. I get the taste for crunch though. I'm in the minority re: 'rules light'. Not to mention, when someone is invested, $ and time wise, in a popular rules kit, switching and 'dumbing down' isn't a very appealing option.

The Mod eh? *chuckles* Hmmm, I have been reduced (or is it elevated?) to just a title. Anyhow, the main reason I came into this thread is because I GM'd a recent mini-campaign for Tailspin and a few other newbies. I cannot GM them further because I have other responsibilities but I do hope they find a game. :) - Gauss
IF you like or don't mind rules, then the odds are in favor of the crunch. Test of time wise, for long-term play, you can do anything you want, as long as it is 3.X. In wargaming, unless much has changed (not in that biz anymore), the 'play anything you want game' is Warhammer 40K. Comparatively speaking, everything else (is?) a flash in the pan, no matter how much better the rules or setting was. Marketing and money wins. Luck though, regardless.
I feel strangely referring to a person as a field/railgun. I get visions of some dude launching off of the spine of a converted frigate.
Very cool of you to look after your former group though. Way to mod...er... super-cooled electromagnetic mass accelerator person...HAH.. "very cool" I crack myself up...
what i am trying to understand is, do we have a GM for pathfinder?
Not that I'm tracking. "Everyone" on here wants to play it (see "...anything you want..." prev.) but "no one" wants to run it. More accurately, the PF games that I see here, from random sampling/search, are either no/low traffic (stale) or closed. If PF is what you want, consider tightening up your shot group and editing your initial request. If you want fish, you get fish, if you want perch, use the right bait.
it's not that i don't want to run it, it's that i can't. i have next to no experience even playing (ask gauss). anyways you have a point, i haven't had much luck with random search's either.

Actually, my name IS a reference to a magnetic Railgun. I have been Gauss (Death) for ummm, sheesh, about 20 years now. My name is a reference to a Gauss Rifle from the game Battletech. I got rather good (or lucky) at taking down enemy mechs with them. Anyhow, enough off topic information. I was just giving Tailspin a hand. If you want to talk to me further about Magnetic Rail accelerators feel free to send me a message to my inbox. - Gauss
If you want to run tailspin, then start small, and play what stokes you. I'm a weirdo, game wise, more a hack writer than gamer really. If you like fiddly bit/PF/whatever, then baby step it. Most people that aren't complete jerks will work with you, esp. if they know that you are new. It is just a game after all, not a job (for most anyways) TM Gauss, but I'm topped off re: weapons and tech for lifetimes. I don't know if age mellows, or is just tiring. out
PS Can't? You are just worried about doing it well. Step one, write some crap down if you need 2. Roll some dice if that is your bag, and make a decision. Learn by sucking/being cut. (wow, that sounds a bit latent) w.evv. "YOU CAN DO EEET!!" If you are having fun, and it isn't immoral/unethical, then sounds like a win to me. out
*sigh* looks like i'm gm if we can't find anyone... i guess i should look up some premade adventures or something, i'm not that creative.
Sounds like you are pretty clear on playing, and not running, PF. Keep looking around, you'll find something, pretty quickly. That is an upside into being into the really popular stuff. The down side is everyone else is scrambling to catch the boxcar.
i'm not against the idea, i'll do it, i'm just not sure if i am ready.
If a kid is ready to point their finger and make 'bang bang' noises, then so are you. Just a more complicated version of the same basic idea man. Take input, roll some dice, go.
okay, i'm looking at somethings, i..... i don't know anymore
ya, i'm not going to be able to run a full game, maybe i could run what i just did with gauss though.
okay i'm going to keep looking for a DM, if a few more days pass, i'll start to think about running it
There's an idea right there. Plenty of people looking to play PF right now. You could just start with an advertised one-off adventure, perhaps using pre-gens. Training wheels. You could just keep running the same thing over and over for whomever wants to play, until you get sick of it, tweaking it as you go. I believe that the PF basic starter box is available in various formats through drivethrurpg.com. Pretty cheap, built for baby steps. I believe that is even has a module/adventure. Just brainstorm. Bit of sword drill way of learning, but time tested. out
May want to check this out. Nothin' but noobs looks like. http://community.roll20.net/discussion/4130/newb-pathfinder-player-lfg
I have faith in ya tailspin. Even if you're not great starting out I'll stick with ya to the end. And I'll give constructive criticism if you'd like. :)
Pretty cool Zack. Most people, at least the people you would want to hang out with, are pretty easy to please if you just work with them a little bit. Never know what you are capable of unless you put yourself in the situation, or get put there.
If you guys are patient, I could GM for you.
I'm pretty easy, as long as people maintain a minimum standard of behavior. I've been bumping heads with miscreants lately. Apparently everyone thinks that theft is no big deal anymore. As long as you make an honest effort, there is something that people who only want to play should keep in mind. The guy running is at least stepping up, what are they doing, you know?
add: GM's are scarce here too. Not a lot of room for complaint. Beggars can't be choosers, then again, this is the age of Obama, so maybe this no longer applies, anyhow....
Way to man up BTW Shawn. Good deal. Not sure that I can even play, but kudos anyway
