Looking for D&D group

Hey, I have been watching criticale role for a while now and i really want to get started with D&D too. But i don't know any people in my area to play with. So i hoped i could play with people here, i'm dutch so my english is okay, but not perfect. and i'm 17 i hope thats not to young, as i see that most people are 20+ on this website. I think i'm quite comfortable roleplaying so that won't be a problem. I do already have a character, and a background, but i have no problem making a new one. Anytime in the weekend is OK for me, just remember the timezones, as i live in GMT+2 I prefer 5E as i have some experience with that version. I hope there is a group that i can join and welcomes new players..
Hey there sir! Glad to see you're interested in this wonderful game we all love to play. However, if I might offer some tips as to looking for a game. The forums are unlikely to provide you with a game. I'm not saying that it won't ever provide you with one. But having been a player and a GM I can safely say that I just use the Games - Looking for Group functionality, and specifically using the advanced functions to pick out a time, a language preference, and much more.  As a playe r: this functionality allows me to find the sorts of games I'd like to be a part of, not only for player size, but general feel of a game. A good DM/GM will often rite up small describers or summaries about what sort of game they want to be running, and so I can see if my goals line up with their gameplay ideas. Of course I'll reach out to the DM and speak with them. Or if I feel that I'm a great fit for the game I'll apply for it. Yes, it might take you a few applications to get into a game, but trust me, there are PLENTY of games out there, you'll find one. As a GM/DM : I am never looking on the forums for players. All I need to do is make my game an advert, write what I'm looking for, and just wait for the applications to come rolling in. I have learned what I look for in a player group, and I talk with players about their character applications if I want to see more, or if say, they didn't read my directions as to what I'm looking for with character concepts. Also, I would recommend that if this is your first round with the game that perhaps you look for a slightly smaller group than what is portrayed on CR. 5+ people in a gaming group can be a little, difficult.... Not only to get your word in Role-Play wise, but combat can get very  slow at times, especially if the DM doesn't keep things going smoothly. Not every game aspires to be critical role, and not every game should (in my honest opinion). What my reply comes down to, is that you should jump into the looking for group tool and talk to people. You'll find a great deal more success that way.
Hey Paul pretty much hit the nail on the head, Just a few additions on applying to be a player, if your new to game there is an option in the LFG function to look for games that have tagged themselves as "Welcomes new players" secondly as Paul also said opening a dialogue with GM's who run games is always a good idea, it allows them to inform you more so about the game they run and the type of GM they are, It also may highlight your interest in joining their game more so. Another thing I'd suggest is taking a bit of time to fill out your profile, its not vital but any edge that might get you selected is worth a try, and again just expanding on the pervious statement it may take some time to find a game that accepts you but there are plenty of options out there so don't let not hearing about one game stop you applying for another. Best of luck
