Is it possible to set tokens so that they are selectable, but not editable?

I was looking over the forums and saw that there were ways to select tokens and use their names/stats in macros, but it looks like the only way to utilize that is if I have edit permissions on the token in question.  My GM hasn't been able to find anything, and that is probably because it doesn't exist, but it would be nice to be able to say something like "Shoots the limey #####!" in my macro for a pirate or w/e, where the ##### is the target's name, but have it be automatic. If this isn't a feature, maybe it should be.

You can use @{target} to call attributes of a token without selecting it

For example: /em shoots at @{target|token_name}
How is anything targeted without selecting it?  Maybe that is what I'm confused about.

When you use the @{target} command, it asks you to click a target. This allows you to target tokens you can't select usually.
