QUESTION!

Hey, so I had unbelievably good responses on my last question, so here's another. Most of the good tokens that you can buy scale very nicely. As in, they look good at nearly any zoom level. What format are those images in? What software can I use to make them? Etc Etc

They are either PNGs or JPGs. (Ignore the part on this page about gifs, the support for that seems to have fallen by the wayside.) See: https://wiki.roll20.net/Image_Best_Practices_for_... You can use about any pixel editing software. The GIMP is popular, as is Photoshop, if you have it. Various other art programs about, just do a search on google and you'll find something for your platform.

Image format for Roll20 is .png, .gif, or .jpg. .png and .gif will allow transparency , and .png will be the best quality wise for transparency. Image wiki: https://wiki.roll20.net/Image_Best_Practices_for_R... As far as software, GIMP if you aren't willing to shell out cash or photoshop if you are are probably the two biggest options (from my perspective as a non-artist, so take it for what it is worth). As far as making them look good at a wide variety of zooms/token scales, that is all dependent on their resolution (note pixel resolution, not the print DPI resolution). Ninja'd by Aaron. Good to know about the support status for .gif though.
I'm sensing a trend with Aaron's ninja skills :P Ok thanks that page is helpful for sure! I also found good info on pages linked therein!

As an aside, I regularly use gifs just fine for transparency.

There is some question of late whether they are still supported. You have been warned. =D
