Hello all, my name is James and I got a story for you!
I just started on Roll20 a few days ago, and I tried to join a few campaigns that looked interesting to me, but so far I haven't been able to join a single campaign. I understand that me being new to the site and how it works would be detrimental to the groups progress, and I also understand that since I am younger than most players (I'm 17) that I am not as experienced as other players and that my schedule won't match others. I'm looking for a mentor and group that can teach me how things on the site work and help me when it comes to other things in the systems I don't understand.
Now about myself. I am 17 and still a student, but I have a lot of free time to play whenever everyone else can. I have been playing tabletop games for about 3 years and I have been play-by-post roleplaying for about 4 years, so I am more concerned with story development rather than just action for the sake of action. My first group I join in real life were a group of friends that played at my uncle's hobby store every week. I joined their group and they taught me some of how Pathfinder and DnD 3.5 worked. I was able to grasp the concept without too much difficulty, but I still didn't understand a lot of other things, so I just stood with the basic things while playing and didn't try to do anything too fancy.
After a while of that, when Star Wars: The Old Republic came out, I wanted to look into a Star Wars RPG. I found one and I introduced it to my friends, and we agreed to start playing it. That was when I first started DMing. I don't think I did a too good job really, but I had a lot of fun with playing with everyone. If I had to say, I'd say that the Star Wars RPG is my favorite thing to play, but it's still too soon to tell.
Despite having made great friends, my uncle had to close down his store due to not enough buisness. That was when we tried to get to each other's houses to play, but we never got a chance to. What made it worse was that I had to move pretty far away so now it's nearly impossible for us to get together like we used to and really play. A few months go by and I suddenly remember about tabletop games. I wanted to start a group at school, but there weren't anyone around the area that I knew that played any sort of tabletop games, plus I don't have the equipment anymore, like maps, dice, and a printer to print out character sheets, to start a group up even if I wanted to.
I started to look into Virtual Tabletop games, and that's what brought me to this site! I started downloading books from the internet, and now I have all the Pathfinder and Star Wars books on my laptop. I also have a built in mic and webcam, so the quality may not be the best. So far, I haven't had any luck finding anyone to play with, and I'm beginning to lose hope on Virtual Tabletop gaming. I'm looking for some people-nay, some friends- that will welcome me and help me out around the site.
I greatly appeciate you guys reading my more than likely boring story!
James
