[3.5] Custom Character Class?

Hi! Um. I'm a new user, I've always been interested in D&D and I thought this was a great way to do so for my friends and I as I play for the first time. However, I was just wondering if it would be possible to do custom classes (well, "custom" as in found on dandwiki and ones that are just not options) instead of the classes that are currently found on here?

The sheet's are mostly just a way to format a character's attributes. They also autocalc a variety of things. Custom classes are certainly possible. Exactly how will depend on what system you are using and which sheet for systems that have more than one made. And my manners deserted me; welcome to roll20 and the hobby.

Welcome to Roll20.  Some sheets allow more customization than others.  The OGL sheet will only comply with the WOTC SRD. Not sure which sheet you are referring to (one of the D&D sheets I assume).  You can make a request to a sheet's author to add additional features like alternate classes.  Pro subscribers have the option of creating a custom sheet, so that is always an option if a sheet doesn't meet your needs.

Although the ogl sheet actually does allow for quite a bit of customization including custom classes via the settings tab on a character's sheet. Edit: depending on which sheet you're using and how far your class diverges from the general rules of your system you may have to dive into the wonderful world of macros or need to do some workarounds to get a specific unique mechanic working for easy rolls. This is true for all sheets as they are designed for the official rules to a large extent.

So depending on which character sheet that I use, we'll either be able to fill in the blanks ourselves, or we'd have to pick from whatever classes are available? Is there a way to look at all of the character sheets without having to actually make a game? On that note, is it possible to make a character before joining a game (since there is the option of importing)?

You can create a "test" game picking whatever sheet you want to try first. Open the game and create a character.  You can then delve into the nuances of the given sheet.  You can change to a different character sheet template from your campaign's game settings page to test another sheet.  You really don't want to do this with your actual game since not all attributes will be shared or utilized across different sheets.  This will allow you to try a few sheets out before deciding on one for your actual game. A DM can allow importing of characters from the game settings page.  The imported character needs to of the same sheet.

For the only current 3.5 sheet in the repository, you would fill in the blanks for any character class you would use, regardless of whether it is a custom class or one from the official rules.  It is designed to adhere to the official rules, in particular the original Players Handbook, but a lot of customization can be done one way or another. You may have to add custom skills (or skills from other resources) to the repeating section at the bottom of the skills tab.  If all characters in a campaign use those skills, create a "master sheet" first, add those skills, and then duplicate it to create the characters to save on typing in the same information multiple times. You may need to edit some of the macros to adjust for a particular character's skills/attacks/etc.  All the roll macros available on the 3.5 sheet should have a field available to edit them in though some of them require a check box be toggled to reveal the field.  If you need help with macros, there are many folks on the Roll20 forums who are happy to help. If you want to play with the sheet, you will need to create a 'campaign' to do it in, but you can create more than one campaign and anyone can create one.  That is also a good way to learn how to use the table top. :) Hope that helps.
