Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay?

Would love to find a group playing WHFRP 2nd Ed (no interest in the new card game). I've played the original system, and this one, and love the world and the simple game system. I have several of the books myself. I've been playing various RPG's for 28 years (yea, I'm old), so I'm usually pretty good at working with various groups.
Play perhaps. Run? Don't have the books. 2nd is better though. This latest has some interesting mechanics, but between all the superfluous doo-dads, most of which are required, second smokes it. I've even seen some 40k iterations (not the current stuff)
So we have 2 players! I'm a terrible GM, and don't have the time to do all that work, or I'd run it. I know another person who might play, if I can get her to use the computer for it. lol I may even have to buy her a webcam . . .
After they fixed some of the careers (some progressions were switched) the only problem that I had w it was in the base mechanic, you have a 30% chance to do a 50% task. There was a lot of rationalization on that point. ez fix.
@TM. I don't recall running into the issue you are talking about - could you give an example? It's been a year since I played WFRPG, so I may have simply forgotten. I do recall it had some bugs tho.
I didnt even know they had an RPG. I played the TT wargame and loved it. I rolled with the Skaven and had a secondary dwarven army. Can you play as a Skaven Assassin or Dwarven Trollslayer? I might be interested in this.
30% chance to do an average task. 50% really should be "challenging" What this means is that you have a 7/10 chance of failing the average. @Lynch, skaven if the gm lets you, with some fudge, not officially. Dwarven Trollslayer is a go to 'career' (class) so yes. Add: Career progression, mostly xp wise, was broken also. I switched the xp system to something similar to Runequest, as it was also percentile based, with minimal bookwork, and organic growth, and no xp to track. Still a good game though.
@T M. I think I have electronic copies of many of the books. Would you be willing to run a game if I gave those to you?
While that is very trusting and generous, thank you but I'm afraid that I must decline. With persistence, you should be able to get your WH fix. It is a good game, but there are those that are either objectively better, or at least more suited to my screwy wiring. Top quality or go home. Settling just nags at me. There are (overpriced) electronic formats available FYI.
Electronic formats of the world? Yea, no interest. I don't like it when the computer doesn't understand what it is my character wants to do. lol
Electronic formats of all of the 2nd edition books.
I aquired them. I couldn't see paying hardcover prices for electronic copies of stuff I already owned. Very naughty.
THANK you! While I don't condone, at least you aren't another pirate apologist. No BS. I appreciate that.
No, I know what I do isn't above board. I will say this: I do pay for things that are worth it. While I have pirate copies of several movies, that's mostly b/c it was the easiest way to get it onto my media center (ripping is a pain). There are some I download and 'nope, not gonna pay for THAT' and promptly deleted; and others that make me run out and buy it so I have it, and the extras, and all the fun. Are you familiar with The Oatmeal's Game of Thrones/Why we pirate comic? Very accurate.
If this is an apology, in the theological sense, then perhaps it is best we quit while ahead.
Not at all. More of a "I'm lazy, and right now it's easier to pirate than to pay." If it were easier to pay, I'd do that.
Phew. Again, low/no BS. You don't know how many people I've already pissed off on this topic. You are the first not to make excuse. I wish the country ran that way. Let the mob do it. "Why should we do what you say?" "Do you like your shins where they are?"
LOL - I'm from LA, and when the mob quit supporting Edwin Edwards, things went to shit. The best thing about organized crime, is they HATE disorganized crime. Much less random violence when the mob is in town. I will also so this about pirating - I'm a tech, love playing with computers. Its MUCH more interesting to figure out how to get it done, than to just plop a ccard # or paypal account down.
So, you're more about the robbin' that the loot. I can empathize somewhat.
I guess so. Never thought about it like that.
The hunt over the eating, the challenge.
Well you do find a lot of the time for most material you either have to private purchase it at a really expensive price or have friends with it. And with most of the stuff I'm interested in, that means its been oop for at least a decade, maybe even more. WHFRP you say...I might be interested in that. I'll check out the rules first, see if there's a career I like and get back to you in, oh about a weeks time. Quick edit as of writing and no reading heading towards the Kislev career so I can play a Russian-ish character.
They should call this site "The Pirate's Cove" : P "Make your 'YARR!' save to avoid corruption."
LOL If you think about it some, it makes sense. Many RPG'ers are perpetually broke (teens, college kids) and the books aren't cheap. Always look at the environment for clues. ;)
Think I'll keep tacking into the LG wind. Avast ye game grubbers! Mind that watermark lads!
Well, if we get a WHFRPG going, would love to see you there. I like the way you think, talk. :)
Same here, thus the allowance for the lightweight leanings towards larceny. Game of WH would be a six pack of diet cokes of evil.
Diet anything - bleck! LOL I'm not evil. More CG (with N tendencies).
Well, while I was availing myself of Gygaxian shorthand, it wasn't to represent the ,somewhat usable, but ultimately incoherent moral/ethical mix of same. Judeo-Christian background, same underlying moral OS. It is game though.
Shameless bump. :)
I'd be interested, depending on my availability. I own the Old World Bestiary, Sigmar's Heirs, Tome of Magic, Tome of Salvation and I have a copy of the PHB on it's way to my home. I'd be especally intrested in playing a Wizard, Priest or Ratcatcher I also have the 1e core book, as well as the 3e coreboox, 2x Player Handbooks, Creature Guide/Vault, DMs Guide and Signs of Faith expansion. I am a pirate apologist though :p
Seems you are in the vast majority. No need for apologetics when backed by a mob for a shout down matey. : L
if we can just find a gm . . . .
Bumping this b/c I really like this world & system.
Ummmmmmmmmmmm i havent played this before and id need to get the books but i give me a week of reading some of the books and i think i can b ur gm i did the same thing with a deathwatch campaign . Only thing i needed was some help from the players sooooo yaaaaa i just love all stuff warhammer related lol pm me if u have any questions (and shoot me a link of where u got the books pirated at lol i join yee ranks)
I'm in if the day/time fits. Not roleplayed for 25 years so could be classed as old and rusty so be gentle with me.
would be interested in possibly GM'ing.  Ran a 2 year plus campaign in 1st edition and have run shorter campaigns in 2nd.  I'm in EDT on my end.  What times / days were people thinking?
Colour me interested, never played before but it sounds interesting. GMT though...
would love to play a system that i love can run if that is  needed always wanted to run thousand thrones all the way thrue
Bump for Not D&D
I am keen to play WFRP again - I used to play the first edition and thought it was great.  I have the core rules and some other material for 2e and am now looking for a fun group to join. Please message me if you are still looking for players
