[GM LFG] RP heavy, roll light and story focused game.

Instead of everyone that seem to look for D&D and other roll heavy games. I would like to find a group of 4 players or so that would be interested to play a game thats not as much focus on rolls but much more on roleplaying and story then on combat and getting the highest numbers. I got a world and story in mind and it would be a mix of fantasy and steampunk with a world that I would like to call Skysea. It would entail floating islands, skyships and things like that, the technology level would be something around flintlock pistols and rifles, swords would still be very much used. As for the system, I am not sure that I want to run this with a conventional system since I don't want this game to become a roll heavy game, I prefer to make simple character sheets and maybe use a 2d6 or something but that I can be persuaded, BRP is simple and you can easily remove much of the rolls from there. The reason why I do this is after playing a D&D game there I had to roll for just about everything, RP did not matter at all it was just what the dice said. I am a person who like to act out the characters I play and whats the point of that if all my talking or living into the character does not matter since its all up to the dice since the rules says so. So if you are interested then write here or poke me on a pm. I am very friendly and easy to talk to. If you wish to know more about how I Gm, then read my profile. Best Regards Mr. Johnsson.

I'd be interested if there are no time conflicts with what I've currently got going on. I'm familiar with BRP having played Call of Cthulhu and Renaissance (A historical setting using BRP).
I just feel like it would be nice to GM something thats not either Shadowrun or Runequest for a change. As for times that we could easily sort out, I only got one set time and thats Saturdays when I play with my Shadowrun group that we livestream, so I got to keep that time reserved.
You had me at "Instead" (jk) But seriously, I soooo wanna join this!!! I used something called OpenEtherpad to make a character for a freeform D&D game with only a d20 as the dice but skills and all the stuff won't be used, i mean the numbers. My own freeform game is sort of like yours, but based sorely in D&D. But i would love to join your campaign as well, if at all possible. I just used this form/character sheet to fill out: Name: Race: Class: Apparent Age: Size: Skills: (Only write those that are class skills and believe you wish to focus on more then the others.) Class Feats / Feats: Languages: Magickal abilities: Magick spells: Weapons / Armor: Outfit: Equipment/stuff: Notes: Here is an example i made with the form above for for my freeform game: Tim Jim Hanksy Would something like that work for you? Also, what about Magic, is there any thing like that in your campaign? I'm prefectly fine without, as i like to play as a mundane character (magic-less) But still, would like to know ^^ Also, what kind of species would be possible to chose from? Sorry for asking these man questions, but i enjoy having lot of options ^^
Hi there i would be very intressed in this. I really love roll light games mostly what i play.
Wonderful, then I will put some work in and pm you guys.
I may be interested, I've never been in a role heavy game before, but wouldn't mind giving it a go
Mr. Johnsson said: Wonderful, then I will put some work in and pm you guys. Let me know some of he questions i asked and i can whip together a character quickly and set it up with a deep back story
I will get on it right away!
This sounds like fun, but I'm unfamiliar with BRP. Some info on how the game could work, whether magic is allowed, etc, would be nice to know though. Allowed species and un-allowed classes would be nice to know though too:)
Sounds interesting, the setting reminds me of Skies of Arcadia. I would be willing to join, although I have not been in a heavy RP campaign before.
Will post more information on the world tomorrow.
Definately interested if youll have a tired old grunt.
I'm interested very much. Is there anyroom?
It sounds like there might not be room left but I would love to join, I love roleplaying more than anything else and the fact that I might be able to be a sky captain in your world, I would pay for it I mean, owning and flying a ship, yes, yes sir.
Will just point out that there is no group yet. There is just me with an idea and people that wish to play. So do not worry I will throw up a campaign later and invite everyone that is interested so we can talk it over. It does not matter if you are new to roleplay heavy games, we are here to have fun and learn so I do not mind at all. I remember when I could not RP for shit and all I did was roll the dice to progress... then I found a GM that hated dices and made us RP everything and since then I have done the same more or less. But to get on with my idea, I started to write some. This is a world I have been dying to do but I have never really gotten any inspiration for it until now. And skies of Arcadia is a very good reference since its one of my main inspirations. So Magic first! My thoughts were to skip magic and instead focus more on technology, to make the ships fly you do not need magic all you need is the right sails and things like that... its done with steampunk-esk technology. Races, well here I am torn. My first thoughts were just humans and then I started to think a bit if it would be fun with other races so I am open for suggestions here, its not a bit problem to add in some other races at all if you guys want it. But I do not want the standard ones, Elves, dwarfs, haflings, gnomes, orks. If there will be other races I would prefer something a bit more original. I will give this some proper thoughts as well. Skysea My vision is that there is land in this world, there are great sea's and some islands in it, you also have the large floating islands in the sky were some have built there homes. To travel around the easiest way is to use a skyship, these ships can sail both on water and air. The technology level will be greater then what it might sound like. There will be pistols, swords, canons, flying ships and a number of odds and ends. There are five nations in Skysea. Thracia, Kelodori, Ianese, Estorian and Motsuba. The five nations also represent five kinds of people. To be plain, Thracia is inspired by the Celts, Kelodori are inspired by indians, Iansese by Japan and China, Estorian by the Romans and Motsuba by the Aztecs. I say inspired not copied. There is not huge ruling nation that is governing all the others. There is a temporary truce between the nations right now and a council put in place were five noble families from each nation gather and try to maintain the peace. The peace is only a about six years old, before that is whats know as the dark age, a long war that lasted for almost sixty years. Thats a bit of what I have in mind right now. I will try and write it all down and explain the nations a bit more as well, but I want you to see that I am working on it.
Sounds neat. Looking forward to hearing more.
Wow sounds great.
I hope so... And as it seems right now there will be a very simple roll system that we will use when I do not want to dictate how things go and add some random element.

Oh campaign up Ill throw a link in here in a moment.
Right then this is what I had in mind for the system. You get 12 points to place out in. Strength: Dexterity: Charisma: Intelligence: Ranged Weapons: Close combat: You get 6 points to place out in specialty's. The system works as following, you roll 1d6 for everything. So if you want to kick in a door and have 3 in Strength, then you need to roll under 3 with the d6. Specialty's are special things maybe like... Cannoneer, Parkour, Carpenter. You got 6 HP, each hit is 1 damage. So say that you are engaging a pirate that have just boarded your ship. Round 1: Thela: I grab my pistol and pull the trigger trying to hit that fragger in the face. GM: Ok roll it. Thela: *Rolls the dice and gets a 4* Sweet, I rolled a 4 and I got 4 in Ranged Weapons. GM: Nice lets see if he manages to avoid it then. *Rolls the dice and get a 3* Well he rolled a 3 and got 4 in dexterity so you only graze him with the bullet for one damage. The pirate charges at you with his cutlass held high. Round 2: Pirate hp 5, Thela hp 6. GM: Ok... the pirate if charging at you, he is screaming and waving his cutlass in the air, you got the higher dexterity what do you do? Thela: Well... I gues I draw my rapier and try and hit him when he comes to me. GM: Aright then, well as he charges towards you he will try and swing when he gets close. So you can chose to attack or defend... Thela: Oh I will defend, I dont want to get hurt and that man looks very mean. GM: Oh very much so and as he comes closer you can smell him as well, does not seem to have washed for a while. *Rolls the dice and gets a 2* Ok then... he swings at you in a wide arch. Thela: Ok right, well I try to sidestep and since my rapier will break if he hits it on the side. *Rolls the dice and gets a 3* Oh sweet a three that means I manages right? GM: Oh indeed, you step away easily from the clumsy fool. So you want to roll as close to your skill as you can but not roll over it. You get 1 damage for each eye on the dice and you negate one damage per eye on the dice when you block. This is just an idea for a very simple system if we do not want to do full freeform.
Seems fairly stright forward no long chart look up's and roll modifiers. Good job :)
I can't take credit for this system even if I wanted to. Its from a Swedish P&P came called Null State, very simple and easy to use. I just want a very simple system with some base values that you can use for rolls so I do not have to dictate how things go all the time and it can be good to know that Thela is more dexterious then she is intelligent...
I like it going to have to look up Null State with a simple system like that it must leave lots of time for story, characterization and ideas.
Its a spy game, James Bond style. Kill the mad scientist and save the girl... Really simple and made to be set up in about 10 minutes.. you need paper and a newspaper... thats all... oh and a D6. Its nice. But its in Swedish.
This should be the campaign, so all that are interested can sign up here: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/9690/skysea-a-fragile-peace
