FFG Star Wars (Beta) Daytime Game (EST)?

Just wondering if there might be enough players (minimum of 3, I should think) interested in getting together during the day (preferably starting around 10AM Eastern Standard Time, but possibly starting as late as noon). Any weekday would work for me. The rules for the new Star Wars game are still in "beta" and may not match up exactly with the genuine rules, but the release is still a fair bit off. I'm willing to teach, but the game uses non-standard dice (symbols instead of numbers), so some mental flexibility would be required by people who don't have the book but still want to play.

Yup. I don't leave for work till 1930 EST, and I'm more wired for the types of mechanics that you propose. Please tell me that the new rules are entirely 3.x + independent. Also, absolute firm go time NLT 1200. Earlier is better.
The new rules are by Fantasy Flight, and have no relation to d20 at all. They use different types of die (d6, d8, and d12) rolled in groups to represent the action. It's much more cinematic (in my opinion anyway) than any of the 3 d20-based games they put out. The current rules-set is known as "Edge of the Empire" because it's focused on "fringe" elements of the Star Wars Galaxy during the Imperial Era, so character selections are somewhat limited (no Jedi, though weak, untrained force users are available). FFG's plan is to release 3 "Core" Rulebooks, the first is Edge of the Empire, the second will be about the Rebel Alliance and military-type campaigns, and the third will be Jedi & the Force. Here's an online roller for the dice the game uses... http://game2.com/eote/#proficiency=4&challenge=2&difficulty=2&setback=1
Oh, for a sec there I thought you meant no Jedi, period. Play them or no, and you don't even have to like them, it ain't SW w/out Jedi.
Oh yeah, I don't have a problem with Jedi or Force Users. Obviously they're an important part of what makes Star Wars unique. The rules just don't really cover "trained" Force Users yet, and when they do, they might treat them as "high level only" characters, similar to the way FFG made the Deathwatch inherently more powerful characters than the Inquisitors and Rogue Traders.
As long as there is some way for someone to Skywalker from the get, otherwise, (see prev.) Instead of (what can we call a 'prestige class' w/out getting sued?) ticking people off, they should make the LS/DS struggle actually meaningful and tangible. The original iteration (d6) was much closer in prinicipal. You fall to the dark side, you are either a casualty, (NPC /OOP) or you are doing things from the DS perspective. The latter emulates setting better. Dramatic adventure. Make 'em feel it. Typically, what hurts the DS player most? Taking control of the character when they are doing cool DS stuff, and making them do it when they don't want to. "PADME! NOOOOOO!" "I need to heal" GM "Yeah? Feel the power of the DS. Sucks to be you. Ask the emperor if he has a dremel handy." "Why are my friends trying to kill me? Where's my inhaler?" Provide tangible short term benefits for 'trivial' risk. ("Take a hit of this ma'man, first one's free." All the cool kids are doin' it. Next thing you know, they're doing horrible, shameful things just to get another hit off the force pipe. Make the DS lure / tempt the Player. "Easy out". More "powerful in the force" the worse it gets. Make a "MBWAHA!" save. This also makes sense in the 'more dirt than diamonds' realm, and emphasizes what happens when certain whiny water farmers need scruffy hermits or the like. It also somewhat justifies either having the Jedi Order (emph on order), or killing them all. Without guidance and oversight, you've an ongoing rotating genealogical crop of force punks lording it over their sector. Try to kill them all, now you've motivated them to team up and kill you back, which could lead to LS and/or DS groupings. So, you're stuck either way. "I'm the bad guy? How did that happen?" M. Douglas f/"Falling Down" "I voss yust trahink to help. I vonted to be ein painter." A. Hitler "Murder of 7 million people. You make that sound so dramatic. I'm just misunderstood." J. Stalin. "MAKE IT HURT DRILL SERGEANT MAKE IT HURT!"
Reading silence as a no go. Leave a link up time if this is incorrect. Final status check.
u give it a try
