Player/GM Feedback and Rating System

November 12 (8 years ago)
Issue:
I have noticed in a couple of games that it is incredibly common for folks to flake and not show up to games. This is VERY different from real tabletop. In real tabletop, you foster relationships because its not so easy to assemble a group. So the notion of just not showing up to sessions or letting people know at the last minute (or not at all) when you can't make it is just not something that happens in face to face roleplaying.

The issue, I think, is that online play breeds a sort of anonymity. People can just "ghost" away. Their past actions do not follow them.

Possible fix:
Allow pro/plus subscribers who have subscribed for at least 2 months to leave feedback about players they actively play with for more than 5 hours. Why only long term pro/plus players? This is to prevent people from making dummy accounts just to diss/promote alts.

Feedback could take various forms. It could be a general 5 star rating system with a short comment, for example. Of course, you should be able to comment back if you disagree with a rating or to thank someone for their praise (ala-Ebay).

Of course, players who accrue negative ratings can just make new accounts BUT those that accumulate positive ratings will not want to lose all the positive feedback they have accrued and may be more mindful of their fellow gamers.

Allowing people to ascribe a rating to other people is not something we really want on Roll20, even though I understand why it would be useful to weed out toxicity in peer-driven games like tabletop. We don't foresee this feature being on our radar for a long time, at least until we can figure out the ethical implications of it. This type of feature can and has been very easily abused before.

On toxic users though, that is why our dev and mod team is here. We absolutely want to weed out toxic users and abusive users but rating is not the way to do that. Reporting toxic behavior is. Please report any users that violate our code of conduct and if you don't see a report button on the relevant interaction, please email us at team@roll20.net

I hope you understand our firm stance on this. I'll be closing this thread and releasing your votes.
