LOOKING FOR PLAYERS! If you're tired of low role play games ala "My character tells the bar wench he'll pay for good intel." If you keep wondering if there is anyone out there who can run a game to completion, who has a danged plan, who will take your backstory and make it part of the game, read on... You are a member of the Louisiana National Guard and life has been, pretty normal for a given level of being a part of the National Guard and all. Until some strange red comet streaked up from the earth and settled into the night sky, so bright it's visible even during the day, casting a strange red glow when the sun sets. The news went crazy over it. The nutters went even crazier than normal. Typical doomsday, end of the world bullshit. But you're put on notice and things get a little more tense all the same. Until some crazy woman calling herself 'Katrina' shows up and starts flooding half the damned city, breaking the new levys your crew had helped sandbag ten years ago during that same-named hurricane. Now some Storm-wannabe is drowning thousands of civilians - but it's not just that. There's this real piece of work that's been smashing through the French Quarter, calls himself 'Snapfire' and apparently can summon infernos with a snap of his damned fingers. He's already got half of Bourbon street catering to his every whim to keep him from igniting their precious 100 year old stocks. Bank robberies, hostile takeovers, buildings collapsing, property damage like you wouldn't believe. These 'Epics' are showing up all over the place and the cops just aren't cutting it any more. The governor has declared it a natural disaster and you... you and your team are getting called in. It's the end of the world as we know it, and you've got a front row seat to the apocalypse. Mood: The name of this game is 'real'. There will be no mustache twirling villains and there won't be any "Have at thee ne'r do well!" super heroes. No slap stick here, but hey, we'll have fun and joke around! Inspiration: Loosely based off Brandon Sanderson's "Reckoners" series, but it's not  required reading. Time: Sundays 2 p.m. est - 8 p.m. est (Sharp, if you're late, we're starting without you.) Timeline: I expect this game (a prelude to the larger scale game set a few years after these events) to last about 2 months RL, so 8 games. If you enjoy it, there will be a chance to hop in on the follow up 2-season (8 month) game I plan to run that will BE INFLUENCED HEAVILY by what you and your fellow players do during the hot hostile early days of the modern apocalypse. System: Savage Worlds (New to the system? I'll help you!) How to apply: Send me a PM please How we play: Voice (Skype) and Roll20's tabletop system My promise to you: I will make mistakes, that's okay. I will always be open in my communication with you - either for problems or kudos. I will listen to you. I will do my best to fix problems. I will not try to unfairly stack the odds against you unless you decide to hop into something that has been clearly labeled as 'dangerous as all heck'. I WILL challenge you - mentally, emotionally, mechanically. It'll be fun. You'll get rewarded, you'll change the course of events. There is no railroading here. I will respect your time. We will start on time - every time. If there is an emergency cancellation I will let you know ASAP. If there is a schedule cancellation because of travel, family, work, I will let you know a week ahead of time at least. I will be available for questions. I reward extra effort in backstory, roleplay, etc. I will come in with a positive friendly attitude. Your promise to me:  I will make mistakes, that's okay. I will always be open in my communication with the DM - either for problems or kudos. I will listen to the DM. I will do my best to fix problems. I will not try to unfairly make demands of items, powers, situations. I realize you are are not 'out to get me' or to play favorites. I accept things can be dangerous and my character might die when I take big risks. I WILL be challenged - mentally, emotionally, mechanically. It'll be fun. I'll get rewarded, I'll change the course of events. There is no back seat DMing here. I will respect your time. I will arrive on time - every time. So... Is this sci-fi? Cyberpunk? Modern? I have been playing role-playing games for nearly 20 years and there is only one setting I cannot seem to find a way to extract even one drop of fun from, and that is "modern". I love to roleplay and do story-driven adventures, and carrying a game to completion is a skill regrettably rare in GMs. I would love to join but this question is a real deal-breaker for me.
Modern apocalypse with super powers. So, not quite the traditional setting that fits in a neat box. I also find plain modern setting to be boring. But hey, I've made some pretty strange settings pretty dang amazing if my players saying 'I can't believe I'm so into X setting' repeatedly is any indication. Your call :)
Hello, I haven't played any D&D style games before unfortunately but I have done quite a lot of narrative roleplaying on various websites and have enjoyed it a lot, also watched a lot of roleplay shows on youtube and would like to give something like this a go if you'd be willing to teach me the rules as we play. thanks Muir
Muir, I can't help but notice you copy/pasted this response on 6 forums. So, in response may I ask why you'd be interested in a non D&D style game? What type of game do you like and what attracts you to this setting? Do you have something in mind? Cheers, Celia
Only 2 spots left! Having some fantastic preludes. So far we've got a medic, a studying veterinarian and a sniper whose been on a few deployments.
Hello Celia - I came on the forums looking for players for my D&D 5e game but can't help but be drawn into what you have written. I have not played Savage Worlds but I did convert D&D 5e rules for a "This War of Mine" conversion in Sarajevo (Bosnian War) that played out like a post apocalyptic setting for some close friends. Also professionally I work in Disaster Response so your setting has me intrigued - though don't know how I feel about superpowers. Where do I sign up?
Sending you a PM! :)
PM SENT!
Thank you all for the response, it was overwhelmingly positive! In just a little over 2 days I've filled up all my spots for the game. Now to get those one-on-one preludes ready and kick this puppy into full gear!
