Dynamic Lighting Question

Hello everyone, I have a slight problem with Dynamic Lighting and I'm hoping someone here can share some ideas with me about what might be the problem. I'm still getting used to the system, so I suspect the problem is the result of my own error rather than a bug. My problem specifically refers to a single map, as in I have not yet noticed any of these issues on any of my other maps. This map has one main section (a castle, about two-thirds of the total map) and then three smaller sections that take up about a third of the map (these are upstairs rooms for the castle). When I laid out my lines for dynamic lighting (I did the main part of the map like I normally do, with no problems I can see), I purposely enclosed each of the smaller rooms that are separate from the main map, so light wouldn't bleed from one section to the next. I figured that when the characters climb stairs, I would just move the tokens into the upstairs room and treat them as separate maps for convenience. The problem has to do with what the PCs can see. The other night, while playing, when I first moved the Player banner onto this map, the PCs should (to my mind) have only been able to see the room they were in, as it was dark outside the castle. My players, however, could see one of the small rooms far to the left of the map, where they could see a light (one of the torches in the room) and several NPCs. I can't figure out how this is possible. I had various rooms lit with torches, which I use as character icons that the PCs can control, just to make light sources convenient and easily movable. I placed most of the light sources in advance so I didn't have to drag the appropriate light tokens each time the PCs entered a new room. The way I understand dynamic lighting, this torch on the far left of the map should have been invisible because of walls, doors, etc., despite it being a light token that normally all players could see. I ended up solving the solution at the time by simply deleting the other light sources that the players shouldn't be able to see, but I can't figure out what went wrong. I had Global Illumination unchecked and the other Dynamic Lighting Options checked. When I do the CTRL+L on a player token, it appears to me like it should, but that's not what the players saw. Any ideas would be appreciated.

There's a known bug with DL where long distance can ignore DL lines. EDIT: can't find the thread on it atm.
Huh...I had no idea about that. That could be the problem. Thanks for the reply!

The Players will be able to see any of the rooms that has a Torch or an NPC whose token is set to be "Controlled by: All Players" and "Has Sight". It sounds like you should check the Torch and the NPC token settings to fix this. Wiki docs, https://wiki.roll20.net/Token_Features#In_the_Adva... https://wiki.roll20.net/Token_Features#Controlled_... https://wiki.roll20.net/Dynamic_Lighting https://wiki.roll20.net/Dynamic_Lighting_Examples If that's not it, please write back and we will explore other possibilities.
Hi Gold, thanks for your response. That could also be the problem, as I definitely had torches set so they could be controlled by players. The next time we play, I will test that out first thing and see if that corrects the issue. Thanks again.

Instead of waiting until your players join your game, rejoin your game as a character to see what your characters see instead of using the cmd +L. Then if your torch is set to [All Players], you should be able to see it.
Thanks for the suggestion, Kyle, this definitely appears to be the issue. Thanks to all of you for the help!
