It's specific spells that are stupidly written/implemented, and more importantly an inability to talk and interact like adults about a problem. Way easier to say "don't be a dick, be willing to rejigger your character if you end up leagues more powerful than everyone else" than to malign a basic tenet of character creation. That said, I'm interested in joining a 3.5 group as a player. I generally play spontaneous casters and specialize for oddball things. Been RPing for 18 years so I typically want to homebrew some things, but as I said above, keeping dialogue open about things like power level is paramount to a good experience so anything I make is considered perpetually in beta testing in my eyes.
