Text show up poorly on maps

The default font color doesn't show up very well when set against image maps. Since the font family/size/color selector only shows up when you use the selection tool, it took me a while to figure out that these could even be changed. Might want to make that selector control appear while in text entry mode. Since I didn't know about the selector control, I started poking around in the style attributes. Adding a white text-shadow (or other border effect) a few px wide to the default text style looked slightly better, at least when the font color was black instead of the default gray. Also, while I was digging around in there, I noticed that text boxes that become empty don't auto-delete themselves. This might be a good idea, since I apparently ended up with a few dozen empty text boxes that were no longer visible.

Decent ideas, we'll see where the applications for them end up.
My workaround was to make my own "awesome" drop shadows by copy/pasting the text, using contrasting colors, and overlapping the text slightly off axis. It worked, and it didn't actually take very long to do. It's a MacGyver solution at best, but my friends don't call me Captain Kludge for nothing :) Ideally, options in the text attribute popup for either drop shadows or a glow effect would work best though.
It'd be nice to have the ability to drop numbered map pins (IE: the first one I drop has the number 1 on it, the second one has a 2 etc) and have it open up a text box as a key. That way it's be easy to use maps from anywhere and quickly mark up important locations.
