[5e] Character building - Please read!

Happy Holidays! I'm brand new to D&D, having bought and read the Player's Handbook last night.  I'm hoping one of you kind souls can help me!   I'd like to talk about character creation and playing the game.  I know there are tons of videos and forum links out there, but I happen to like learning with a real person!  Any of you real people feeling charitable this holiday season?  Help a new tabletop player out!
