Stop token distortion

I am trying to draw out a building. Whenever I place a wall piece or table or anything, the UI always changes to the image to fit into a square (1x1, 2x2, 3x3 etc). I even have the grid disabled on my page. Is there a way to stop this from happening so that the image I see in my library is the same thing that gets put onto my page when I drag it there?

Make sure you aren't in the object/token layer. Assuming its a wall or some such, you should be using the background layer.
It even happens when I am in the background layer. I put down this nice thin wall and then the UI changes it to 20'x20'.

Tim , no there isn't. However you can resize it to the desired size after dropping it on the map. If you know the dimensions (pixels) you can right click on the token and select 'Set Dimension'. Alternately, if you are using the scalers you can hold down the ALT key to ignore the grid while resizing. - Gauss
Thanks Gauss. That is what I have resorted to. I was hoping there was an easier way. :)
I must admit, this is one of the things I would love addressed in Roll20. Given the ability to drag images in from the web, I can see why it works as it does - you have no idea what the original size of the image you're dragging is so displaying at full size by default would require just as much resizing - however, when dealing with your own uploads or tokens you often take care to set up the correct sizes in advance. Perhaps holding down Ctrl while dragging in an image could force it to the original dimensions?

I think it's especially annoying that many of the tokens supplied by Roll20 aren't square in nature. Like horses. Not being able to make a horse occupy four squares without it becoming morbidly obese is annoying (since most of the horse tokens are 1x2).

Anthony, not all games use 2x2 for horses. It is up to the artist to decide what they want to produce. If you would like 2x2 horses you can either edit the token in an art program and add padding to make it 2x2 or you might politely request 2x2 horses from those artists that you wish to purchase tokens from. - Gauss
If I understand you, this is what your looking for. Right click the image and under "advanced" tab, change it to "is drawing". then you will be able to resize the picture without it snapping to the grid.
There is a problem with the Grid in that when dropping a pre-made image onto it, it snaps to the grid regardless of it's dimensions. This leads to distortion of maps with pre-drawn grids and such, making aligning them a pain. My method: 1. TURN OFF THE GRID 2. Drop your image onto the map layer 3. TURN ON THE GRID 4. If you know the dimensions, set them per-box. When I do maps in Photoshop, my grid size is 75x75, so I just set that in Roll20 and it fits perfectly. 5. If you don't know the dimensions, you need to do some pushing and pulling on the edges (Holding ALT) to get it to fit. The simplest way is to find the center of the map, and line that up with a grid line. Then pull from each end until everything aligns. It's a process you need to get used to, but it goes pretty fast once you've got it down.
