Mechanics Notes: Prone creatures still get an attack of opportunity but are at disadvantage to all attack rolls while prone. Long jump = Strength score (16 feet for ape) if running at least 10 feet before hand, 1/2 Strength score (8 feet for ape) if from a standing position. No athletics check required. As the PCs exit the Inn (In present tense as written for the game) Rurrick looks off to the east as he sees his group exit the inn. Across the street, he sees a guard tower, he hears a ruckus coming from it. The screams of children are still to the west. He glances back off to the east, and sees outside of town some of the peasant housing is completely on fire. He sees monstrous looking silhouettes from the light of the flame. Off in the distance he thinks he hears cries in every direction. Dorilys and Roach leap out of the inn window. Behind them in the alley is some shuffling. Dorilys says “I know the city well Mr. Roach, I’ll be back. Don’t wait up.” And disappears down the alley. Ailekk, Cassius, and Benecium exit the inn, seeing a bent over Feng stand up. He looks, slightly better but is starring off into the darkness to the east. As they rush out into the street he grunts and says “I have a feeling I’ll be needing my weapons.” Benecium looks about, outside screams and cries of anguish are off in the distance in every direction. The milky night is humid, and the air thick with a wretched odor. Benecium crinkles his nose and says, “Don’t wait for me retainers. Do what needs to be done.” And slips back inside. Cassius and Ailekk notice Rurrick on the edge of the west roof of the inn. So that’s where the smell is coming from. Everyone hears children scream not far away to the west in the street. Roach remembers just two buildings down to the west is a Church of Tamara which doubles as an orphanage. Urd (New character, half-orc barbarian) is in his lazy cousin's shop (an orc named Dranburn) who sells alchemy equipment when he hears children screaming outside. Combat Began (Switch to Past Tense) Urd stepped outside and saw skeletons along with two skeletal worgs and a zombie ogre. He threw a javelin at the ogre. Rurrick moved his flaming sphere along the city streets while the other party members raced forward. Rurrick then turned into an ape and began jumping across the roofs. He saw a figure in a black cloak talking to a Will-O-Wisp and knocked it out with a hurled roof shingle. As skeleton worgs were ripping at the church door to the north of Urd, the zombie ogre was attacking him when an arrow stuck into the thing's head. He relocated to the southeast slightly where Roach met him. The rest of the party caught up and the skeleton and worgs who had just knocked down the church front doors went after Cassius. A cleric of Sune named Mira came out of the church and began helping the party. She was wielding a Mace of Disruption. After the fight, Roach & Rurrick were quite low on spells. They went into the church/orphanage of Tamara with Mira as undead began to fill the streets. There they learned Ailekk's brother Kaaska was a local celebrity to the children and he visited them often. Lots of children were hugging on Ailekk. Dorilys came back with some intel, they also found out the church is linked to the sewers. Urd was worried about his brother, an orcish noble, meanwhile Roach and Rurrick debated if they'd fulfilled their debt to Lord Benecium. After debating they rested, seeing phalanxes of undead arriving outside. Urd went to check and make sure his lazy cousin was doing okay by looking through the windows of the second story of the church. Later, Brescka and Oron arrived with a couple dozen more refugees. After some discussion, Dorilys offered to go find Urd's brother and see he was safe (for 1 gp) and gave the party another talisman. After studying it, the combined efforts of Rurrick, Cassius, and Brescka revealed it was of an ancient language written at the time of Dravens' founding and was written with words of power. She was able to decipher enough to know it meant something like "To protect our lands." Now, the party has descended into the sewers to travel to the castle.
