Due to a plethora of various factors, my last gaming group fell
apart a couple of months ago. I was getting tired of playing D&D/Pathfinder all the time,
anyway; but I have been a couple of months now without any gaming and am getting the itch... I have had experience with many varied systems over the years, but have
not had a serious game other than 3.5/4e/Pathfinder for a decade now.
Played in a few aborted Star Wars d20 games, and one Mutants and
Masterminds game; but they were pickup groups at local game stores, and
fell apart due to schedule conflicts, etc. after a few sessions each. Am
already at least generally familiar with the rules of most popular
systems, and am willing to learn a new system if needed. I have looked over Star Wars Saga edition, and Mutants and Masterminds (2nd or 3rd edition), and both seem to be a good system to develop a character and play in; but as mentioned I am open to other choices. For a Star Wars style game, I have 3 character ideas I would love to flesh out and play - first a Shard / Iron Knight (basically a force sensitive droid for those unfamiliar with them) would be fun to play. Second, if it fits the game, I would enjoy something along the lines of a smuggler or legal trader ship captain, with a ship. I know many games don't work with one of the players owning a ship, but if it fits, it would be awesome. And finally, I'd enjoy playing a roguish scoundrel if that would be the best fit for the campaign. With a superheroes style game, I also have a few thoughts in mind. The first may not work out, as it could be complex/overpowered; so the second and third are basically each a portion of what the first is. So first, a nanoswarm type character (much like Warlock), who can shapeshift and split himself off into multiple smaller forms, each with one or more specialized functions, and who is a technopath (control computers and other electronic devices with his mind). If that wouldn't work, then the second idea is just the technopath portion; a handicapped human who can control machines, and uses a controlled/possessed robot or vehicle or similar device as suits the circumstance when joining his team in the field. He physically remains back at the base and is a hacker / gadget inventor / mechanic for the group. And the third choice is the other aspect of the first character - a mutant who can shapeshift and split into multiple duplicates of himself, each with one or more specialized power(s). I tend to prefer mature and gritty gaming, with the occasional injection of humor; however I am open to other styles of play as well. I am nearly 40 now with over 25 years of gaming experience, have a quick wit and can enjoy multiple types of games from the serious rules-light roleplaying akin to LARPing, to the rules-heavy min/max number crunching of the latest editions. I tend to prefer something in between these two extremes on a regular basis, but can comfortably fit in with any group. I work from home and have a very flexible schedule; I am typically in the Mountain time zone (-7:00), but will occasionally be in the Pacific, Central, and Eastern zones as well. As long as I know in advance what time the game will be, I can make sure to keep that time open in my schedule whether I am home or on the road. - Ken
