LFP for new PF Homebrew Campaign

I am now recruiting players for the Ragged Vestiges homebrew setting! Welcome to the land of Vorkalis, foremost of the kingdoms descended from those destroyed by the Godswar that nearly brought an end to all life. Man, dwarf, elf and orc all took up arms against one another and heeded the call of their kings, queens and even gods in a mad struggle for supremacy that shook the pillars of heaven while releasing hell on earth. Nations fell, civilization crumbled, immortals died and knowledge was lost as the world fought desperately to survive the chaos it had wrought upon itself. The path back to civilization has been a long and painful one, but it HAS been traveled and the you are the offspring of those who have cut that path. You find yourselves in unique times as your homeland, the mightiest empire of the modern age, begins exploration and colonization to both the east and west. In the north, the dwarves continue their ages old battle with the giantkin and have allied with the norselike men of the frigid wilderlands, about whom much has been whispered but little seen firsthand. And, in the lands of the south, it's rumored that a nation of the dark jungles has built it's capital in the very heart of an active volcano, calling it Anshur-Tervahl; "the city of black glass". In Volungrod, a nation whips itself into a frenzy of hatred for non-humans and sets it's collective will toward the annihilation of all who are different. Magic is the stuff of legends and feared by most, but for those with the courage and openness of mind to learn more of it, it can be as capable of miraculous blessings as horrendous evils. There are secrets lost and forgotten awaiting discovery by the bold explorers of this new age and you will be at the forefront of that wave. Things to note: there are no alchemists, gunslingers, summoners, firearms, or tieflings in this setting. If you are hoping to play a character or race that is unusual please run it by me via PM first. Your character background and answers to your questionnaire will be drawn upon to help flesh out areas of the world that will come into play later in the game, so please feel free to be as creative as you like. I see world-building as a cooperative venture and like getting my players involved since they're the ones who are going to be crawling all over it :) As mentioned in the title, this will be a PF game more than likely scaling to Mythic at some point in the campaign. Game time hasn't been decided yet, but I'm leaning toward possibly a Saturday or Sunday morning 11am EST slot. If you're interested, please take a moment to cut & paste the short questionnaire included and post here or PM me your answers so I can get a feel for your taste and compatibility for the group. I've had bad experiences with past groups and would like to try to avoid them this time with a more intensive vetting process. Thank you. 1) What race and class are you hoping to play? What style of that class are you imagining for this character? What is his or her name? 2) Please give a description of your character, including physical and personality traits you see as important. 3) Give a bit of your character's history; i.e- age, relationships up to this point, occupation, apprenticeships, enemies, etc. 4) What are your character's goals? What drives him or her? 5) What is your favorite fantasy series or novel? Please describe why. 6) Favorite fictional character in fantasy? All genres? Please describe why. 7) Favorite figures from history? Why? 8) Preferred atmosphere for your campaign? Dark, epic, mysterious, light? 9) Describe your ideal gaming group.
Is first come first served or are you going to choose from your favorite applications?
I'll choose my favorites, then try a test chat with everyone and see how they gel and go from there. I want a group who gets along and can function as a team, hopefully as friends too. I've been a part of some groups where there was no chemistry - where players couldn't have cared less if a comrade was in trouble or killed and I'd like to avoid that this time.
Definitely interested in this campaign. 1) What race and class are you hoping to play? What style of that class are you imagining for this character? What is his or her name? Was thinking a Human Staff Magus. He would be a front line character focused on the art of wielding his staff. Quentin (no last name because of the monastery). 2) Please give a description of your character, including physical and personality traits you see as important. Quentin stands at medium height with short shaggy blonde hair, that from the looks of it may have grown from a bald head not long ago. His eyes tend to be wide open, seemingly viewing the world through unjaded eyes. When he walks he seems to lean on his staff, not because he is crippled, but because it seems as if it's an extension of himself. 3) Give a bit of your character's history; i.e- age, relationships up to this point, occupation, apprenticeships, enemies, etc. Quentin is brand new in this world. As a baby his parents left him at a monastery for the monks to raise. The monks reluctantly took him into their service and raised him to be a monk himself. While he didn't have much trouble learning the more academic side of their tradition the unarmed martial arts were not his forte. To compensate for this, he really took to practicing the quarterstaff, finding it was a much better fit. While there he also fell under the direct tutelage of a wizard, Veidt Stoneblossom, who was cloistered there, using the monastery as a quiet place to mediate. Veidt saw potential in Quentin and decided to tutor him in the arcane ways, which he picked up readily. As he grew older he felt the walls of the monastery, both physical and mental, more and more. Eventually he became disillusioned with the monasteries rules and decided, a decision he came to with the guidance of Veidt, that he should set out on his own to see the world. 4) What are your character's goals? What drives him or her? To see the world and see what he had been missing in the monastery. In addition Veidt taught him that there are many more spells than the ones he could show him, so he is in search to become more proficient with his spells as well. 5) What is your favorite fantasy series or novel? Please describe why. I don't read much fantasy anymore, but I always enjoyed The Hobbit. It's like a great D&D adventure. Great interaction between characters, interesting challenges that face the characters, and not all powerful characters, you feel like they really have to give it their all to get through. 6) Favorite fictional character in fantasy? All genres? Please describe why. I really like Harry Dresden from the early Dresden Files books. He is a gritty hero, who knows that the most of the world can destroy him in a thought, but he fights through it and does his best to do what he thinks is right. 7) Favorite figures from history? Why? 1. Frederick the Great. Revolutionized Prussia and was a great military leader. 2. George Washington. Very wise figure and tactical mastermind who always seemed to make the right decision. 3. Alexander the Great. Changed the world, was not happy with his place in the world and decided to explore more of it. 8) Preferred atmosphere for your campaign? Dark, epic, mysterious, light? I can go with most. Favorites are Dark, gritty, mysterious, cloak and dagger, mystery. 9) Describe your ideal gaming group. People who really get into roleplaying and know how to share the spotlight. Know the rules for the most part, but don't feel like they need to be the focus. Also not to stubborn, so that things actually get done. DM has a good idea where the campaign is going, and knows how the players are going to get there, but not through the characters making intelligent decisions, not railroading. Can improvise if needed. Not completely sandboxy. Let me know if you need anything else. I am well versed in pathfinder and rpgs in general.

Just a note friend: he asked to send it in a PM.
"If you're interested, please take a moment to cut & paste the short questionnaire included and post here or PM me your answers so I can get a feel for your taste and compatibility for the group." You sure?

Ah, my bad, dude. Sorry.
Count me interested. 1a) What race and class are you hoping to play? Preferably a human Oracle. Haven't played one before, as I'm somewhat new to PF, but it seems like a fun class and it has some interesting roleplay potential. 1b)What style of that class are you imagining for this character? Ideally, a scholar/healer type character. 1c)What is his or her name? I'm not sure if more realistic names or more fantastical names are going to be more prevalent in the game world, so they don't have a set-in-stone name yet. I'll call him Killian Marshgrove for now. 2) Please give a description of your character, including physical and personality traits you see as important. Personality-wise, he's smart and charismatic, infinitely curious about the world and its people, and a seeker of knowledge for its own sake. Holds a strong sense of justice, but harbours a great hatred of combat and bloodshed and fully believes that anything can be solved through talking and discourse. Cheerful (and blindly optimistic at times), but falls into a melancholy when his ideals fail him. Looks-wise, I envision him as somewhat frailer than the average human, though almost frighteningly tall (6'4"-6'6"). Pale grey eyes (Clouded Vision curse) that look almost white if you're not paying close attention, and brown hair that stops just below their shoulders (often pulled back into a ponytail to keep it out of the way). His skin is tan from spending a lot of time outdoors, and he tends to hate restrictive clothing and wearing shoes. Looks slightly gaunt without looking old or starving. 3) Give a bit of your character's history; i.e- age, relationships up to this point, occupation, apprenticeships, enemies, etc. Killian is a young man (I'm thinking about 17-19) who grew up in a small city near the sea, and moved to a much larger city at 15. Has a mother, a father, two sisters, and a brother back in his hometown. Has few friends back home due his personality while he was younger, though none of them would be classified as enemies. Currently works as an apprentice to one of the city's herbalists, and works on developing his divine magic when he's not working or doing research. 4) What are your character's goals? What drives him or her? Primarily, a thirst for knowledge of all kinds. Libraries, field study, he loves it all. One place can only hold so much for him to learn, though, so he tends to succumb to wanderlust after a few months/years in a new town/city. If there's something to be learned, he wants to be there and learning it. 5) What is your favorite fantasy series or novel? Please describe why. I suppose I'd have to say the Mortal Instruments series. I find the characters relatable, the main character behaves in a reasonably believable way when her life gets turned upside-down. She kind of pops out of it a bit faster-paced than I expected, but I understand why. The places and people she meets are described fantastically; descriptive enough that you get a decent picture of them, but vague enough that you can make the fine details up for yourself. 6) Favorite fictional character in fantasy? All genres? Please describe why. I hope video games are okay, because my favourite character in a fantasy video game is L'Arachel, from Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. She's cheerful, upbeat, confident, and unintentionally hilarious without being stereotypically ditzy. I had a really hard time not loving her as a character, even if I didn't like her as a unit. From all genres, I'd have to say the Morlocks and Eloi from The Time Machine. Their dynamic and differences were striking (if a touch cliché nowadays) and I think the Eloi in particular were rather underrated as a group. They're smart the way children are, in contrast with the Morlocks being smart in the way adults are. There are other reasons why I love these two groups in particular, but I'd rather not spoil the book in case anyone hasn't read it. 7) Favorite figures from history? Why? Ada Lovelace, who pioneered computing and helped make great leaps forward in mathematics. Lise Meitner, who was largely responsible for discovering nuclear fission. Sara Josephine Baker, who made great leaps in public health possible (especially in New York's poorest neighbourhoods) in the early 1900's (she also helped track down Typhoid Mary twice). 8) Preferred atmosphere for your campaign? Dark, epic, mysterious, light? I can deal with pretty much any atmosphere, though I prefer a good mix of seriousness and levity. Dark and gritty has its place in any campaign, but so does drinking and dancing at a tavern all night. It just depends on the time and place. 9) Describe your ideal gaming group. As long as no one is intentionally Chaotic Stupid in-game, I'm happy. I can be a bit of a rules lawyer when it comes to combat and spells, but otherwise I just let things happen however the GM wants.
Anyone who submits an application from this point on will be put on our alternates list. We filled up pretty quickly this afternoon with quality applicants and will be going through the vetting process this week, so don't hold back on applying just because we're full atm.
Damn. I didn't get mine done in time for the main list. Sorry, I would have done it quicker if I thought it was first come first served
It wasn't first come first served, but I did get an amazing number of good applications today. I was very surprised, to be honest.
