Is there any way a GM can set up player macros for his players?

I've been a player in a Roll20 game for a few months, played around with Macros and developed quite a set. I am now intending to run my own game, and I am currently in the process of setting everything up... What I really want to do give each of my players a standard set of basic macros, tied to their character's attributes, so that when different players do the same thing, there is a consistency in how it is done. Is there any way to assign macros to players?
1st: through the journal. as per normal character abilities. not so effective as each set, while customized, would have to be set up for each player. 2nd: using global macros, set to all players. this is good for a lot of macros that the players can access, but cannot modify to suit their characters. it is gained using the selected variable; for instance, @{selected|character_name} rolls to hit AC [[1d20+@{selected|attack bonus}]] would output [character_name] rolls to hit AC [#] the only thing players have to do is click on their character, click the macro, and it will run that macro inputting all the selected attributes from the linked tokens attributes. this can also be done with abilities, so %{selected|attack} would run the ability called attack in the character sheets ability list. just remember - @{selected|attribute} - @ searches through the attribute list (left side of the menu) and %{selected|ability} % searches for an ability to run (right side character sheet macro) wait until the rugged reroll comes out and you can actually have a custom macro bar that comes up on a token as well, so you can use all the generic rolls set up using global macros, and then put any custom macros that a token might need as 'token macros' which show up in a list along the TOP of the gaming window, which is good for spells/special weapons/character specific stuff in general.

You can also make and post the macros in the campaign forum and have the players copy and paste them. The pro on this is that all players new and old can retrieve your list of macros if and when needed. The con is that the players have to bounce between tabs and do the work of copy and pasting themselves. I've made a journal sheet that lists of all my macros so I can keep track of them and be able to use the transmogrifier to pull the journal to any campaign I have created that uses those macros and it speeds my setting up since I don't have to rewrite them from memory.

Thank you Michael and Metroknight - both very good suggestions - especially the bit about using % to choose an ability! I hadn't found that trick in the Wiki. Where do you set up Global Macros?

As the GM, you create your global Macros in the My Settings tab. There's an option when creating them on whether they're visible to players. You can select all your players at once or pick and choose who you wish to assign the global macro.
Ah - found it! Thanks for that Kristin! - Matthew

Welcome!
I personally recommend setting them up on a handout for the character so that you're globals aren't piled on. But that's just me ^_^

Yup and this thread ( <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/472938/macro-bar-insanity#post-473468" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/472938/macro-bar-insanity#post-473468</a> ) talks about that issue of having to many macros in the bar.
