Hey all, My name is Dustin, I'm a 23 year old college student. I'm pretty new to D&D and I'm looking for a second group to join. My other group plays on Wednesdays, which is why I can't join a game on that day. My only hands on experience with D&D is the one session that I have had with that other group. However, I have a decent understanding of the rules and a great desire to continue learning and playing. I'm looking for a group that welcomes new players, focuses a little more on RP than combat, and starts playing sometime after 6pm EST. As for a character, I want to play a tiefling fighter, and I hope to start out at level 1 or up to level 3. I know it's usually common to give a short character background, but I got somewhat carried away when writing, so it's a bit wordy. Anyways, here it is: Malaera “Mal” Kerabor was born to a noble family that apparently cared more about its reputation than its offspring. After seeing the that his daughter (Nadia Buckwood) had given birth to a tiefling, Alister Buckwood was furious. Furthermore, after learning that the child was the fruit of a relationship between his daughter and a tiefling man working at the local brothel, Alister called for the execution of both the child and its father (Korin Kerabor). Luckily, Nadia was able to convince her father to instead banish them all from the city and strike her from the family’s recorded lineage instead. Mal’s parents took her and fled to another city, where they lived as paupers. Her mother found a job as a maid for a local lord and her father found a job at the docks. Several years passed, and when Mal reached the age of 16, she was recruited to work on The Calm Before, a merchant ship owned by the lord her mother worked for. While taking part in her first sea voyage, Mal quickly befriended the leader of the ship’s guards, a half-orc named Gethokk who most saw as rather curmudgeonly. As time passed, he taught her the ways of combat and she eventually surpassed her previous station of deckhand and became his right-hand woman. Around the time Mal turned 22, her ship got caught in a particularly harsh tempest and Gethokk was thrown overboard, never to be seen again. She had finally realized that her line of work was much more dangerous than she had thought. Mal locked herself away beneath the ship for the remainder of the trip, only coming out when the ship had finally docked at its destination. During this time she had decided that if she was going to continue with such a dangerous line of work, then she should at least find a job that makes the risk worth taking. After all, Mal’s real goal was to raise her family and its name to heights that her grandfather could only dream of for his own family. He had abandoned her and her mother for his own gain, and she hoped to make him regret it. During her years with Gethokk, he had told her stories of his adventures during his youth. These stories always fascinated Mal, and the loot that he had accrued (or claimed to) aligned much more with her view of proper pay for risking her life than the salary she was getting on the ship. Gethokk had retired from his life of adventuring for a much more stable position on The Calm Before, but Mal had now set out to do just the opposite.
