Meet a man born into this world in a two story house in the middle of the fields with one dirt pathway heading in both the left and right direction. Green grassy fields spread as far as the eye can see with no nearby towns within miles of their house, it was a peaceful and calm world for the Patcher family. Ricks' Parents were hard working day time employers who in Ricks eyes never were really there to tell him anything other than a simple goodbye granted they still had the remaining hours of the night which meant the world to Rick. His Father, Andrew Patcher was known all around for his mastery in almost anything you can think of that was made by hand. Give him the most complex design you can think of and you'd be amazed as to how he can tear the whole thing apart and place it back together with ease. His work relied on him to head out far weather it be to any towns he knew towns in which he could always find directions for he was always the first to go out of the house. Ricks Mother, Penelope Patcher was also a very well know Nurse to all the sort of nearby towns and just like her husband was a very handy woman. She had a little shack a couple miles down the dirt road she called her office and would await any citizens in need of health or if she felt business was quiet at the office she'd head out in search of business along the road and into the forests which surround the grassy fields. Rick never really had any friends to play with and most of the time just played with a little red ball he nicknamed after his own last name "Patches" and just sat on the road playing with Patches until either his father or his mother came back some days mother would come back first which was ok because no matter what he knew father would come back. One dark and cold night came to the Patcher family as they all cuddled up next to each other in front of the fire, thankfully the fire was able to warm up the whole house and they seemed happy together just sitting there. Penelope had forgotten to bring some medical gear to the house as she would need it in case any of them got a cold they wouldn't have to keep running back and forth to get it. So Rick and Andrew being the two men in the family played rock-paper-scissors to see who would go out and get the supplies, Rick lost. Sad about his fathers' victory Rick took Patches out with him and headed out to the shack to retrieve the supplies. As Rick opened the door he saw an orange glow hovering over the forest the front end of the house could clearly see it. He wanted to turn around to let them know but in doing so found both his mother and father looking back at Rick with two beautiful smiles before he left, Rick could think of nothing else that moment and decided to not give heed to them believing it must have been a parade that his father must have been talking about, nothing more. Rick took to the road and ran off to the shack with little haste just wondering what the next meal could be for tonight, would he have more of that delicious noodles his mom makes, or maybe some ice-cream! he just couldn't know. Finally at the shack sets Patches down and hold the doorknob tightly when he hears a sudden roar, it's long and stays there for awhile but then he realizes something, something he really didn't want to happen but it was, the roar was getting louder. He quickly turned around to see figures, hundreds maybe? no thousands?! there were too many for Rick to count he panics and heads into the shack holding the door tightly behind him bracing for the worst to come. the sudden shake of the earth started happening around him as he looked around the small four walls, everything was either moving or falling off of the shelves it Rick bent his knees all the way down put his hands over his head and closes his eyes wanting this to stop already, it seemed like this nightmare would never end, and it wasn't even close. The roar ends, it just stops completely no sound, no movement, only his breath and the hanging light on the ceiling remained. Believing it is safe to leave Rick discovers an even more terrifying issue than what he had recently discovered, his house was on fire. The roof was in flames and there was smoke leading out of the house and what he thought could be millions of footsteps all going in one direction over the dirt pathway and beyond. Rick in tears crying and screaming ran as fast as his little legs could take him straight back to the house wondering what had happened to his parents, were they safe? did they make it in one piece? He finally reaches the house with eyes spread wide open fearing the worst had come and he couldn't take it. The door was blasted out as if someone tackled the door in the fence in front of the house was torn apart....and there was blood.. surrounding the whole frame where the door use to be. he crawled quietly now screeching to his parents names. afraid of what he might see pass through the frame....he enters. The living room was no longer its wonderful colors of white and blue, there was no longer any furniture in sight that was intact, and no longer were those beautiful smiles that he had once say just 15 min ago standing before him. What he saw was blood...nothing but blood covering every single inch of what use to be the living room with broken pieces of furniture and shattered glass on the floor, and a beast that bended over to his mother, the father torn to pieces no parts of him were recognizable anymore as they were scattered all around the place in little bits and pieces. Ricks Mother eyes wide open still able to breath as the Beast took gripping handloads of blood and organs from here swallowing it all into its mouth the pure blood almost reaching Ricks feet. "R..R..un.." is all Penelope could say before her end had finally come, Rick is no longer visible in his own mind in fact, all he thinks is that he is in a nightmare and that he is still in the shack covering his eyes and everything will be back to the way they use to be and he'll be able to see there smiles again! But no....it was real and all he could do was watch, forzen there not really knowing what to do....what he could do at this point...he was speechless to the core, the beast turns his attention toward Rick. He notices everything about this creature, how he could stand up, how he was very big and giant looking, Rick noticed it all almost as if he had known everything about him from head to toe every single little detail was covered in his eyes that day, something he knew he would never forget. The creature walks towards him with little to no regard for the shattered glass laying across the entire floor and hovers over Rick. Rick does not move, he couldn't. With his giant crooked looking hands grabs a hold of Ricks hair and raises him up all the way to the creatures eye level. Rick and the beast connect eyes and notices that they're human, those eyes....how could such a monster have eyes like mine. Rick thinking it is the end all he does is close his eyes, he knows the beast overpowers him in every way and with little to no courage what choice does he have he must just accept the fate in which the higher power has given him and await to see his parents again in the afterlife. His feet touch the ground once more and Rick quickly opens his eyes and looks to see the giant creature disappear into thin are as if he wasn't real to begin with. But it doesn't matter, his parents were just brutally murdered and all Rick can do right now is just sit there and cry, because in his head that's all he is good for, just to cry. He hears footsteps from the front porch and turns around to see a friend of the family, a Hunter around the forests named Krietan Bash surrounds Rick into his arms and takes him under his wing far away from what is now nothing but remnants of the Patcher House. Rick with the help of Krietan Learns what he can in school over the next few years. He spent most of his days stuck in the library reading every single book he can find about mechanical designs as well as Reads all about what they library knows about Physics/Chemistry in that such. He also ( For his Mothers Sake ) joins a cleric school on top of that for about 2 years to learn the basic necessities of healing small wounds and such so he could be dependable on himself if need be. When Rick finally turned 18 Krietan took him out of all school programs and told Rick if he wanted to get revenge on the monster who killed your parents you gotta learn how to fight, With no hesitation at all Rick completely agreed and left school to learn the arts of survival. Another 6 years passed, Krietan had told Rick everything he had known about anything, How to gather supplies in the forest which fruits and plants were good and bad, he taught him how to be a fighter Rick learned every fighting move in the book because of Krietan and he did it flawlessly, maybe even faster than when Krietan was taught all those moves. He was also taught the ways of Stealth how to quietly approach someone and assassinate them if need be he was no thief, only a killer. Over time there was Nothing more Krietan could teach him finally Rick felt as if he was ready for whatever the world could throw at him and so Rick had said his goodbye to his long known friend and ran his own path but before he left Krietan suprised him with a nice present, it was Patches!! he was deflated but Rick never forgot about him and so he kept Patches and set off. Now Rick Patcher A young adult at the age of 26 is now with a group of unique individuals in a quest for peace not only for the others but for his own personal reasons as well and hopes that one day he could meet eye to eye with the unknown killer of his parents, and slay him once and for all.
Seems like a good setup for a Call of Cthulhu campaign.  Good luck.
