Partial dynamic lighting: bright exterior, dark interior. Is this possible?

The party is currently exploring a dark abandoned manor. It's day on the outside, and light shines through the windows and any opened doorways - but outside of that, within the manor it's completely dark. My attempts at making this work have all gone for naught. With global illumination on, there seems to be no way to obstruct the light and make rooms where the global illumination doesn't reach yet torches and darkvision can: if the former can't, then neither can the latter. With global illumination off, the exterior of course becomes pitch-black as well: the best I've managed is to put down artificial suns all around the manor to simulate daylight and reach a bit through the windows as well, but this is a hassle, looks dumb, and at the end of the day doesn't work that well. Is there some trick to this that I'm missing?

Your work around is currently the best solution that I know of for this. To make it look less "dumb", you could add the Artificial Suns on the dynamic lighting layer itself, then no one but you can see them, and you can only see them when you're specifically on the lighting layer.
Oh, so you can add tokens on the dynamic lighting layer and light them up? I never thought of that, but it would help out a lot. It still doesn't really solve the problem of angle, though, in that they'd almost inevitably light up through the windows in an entirely wrong angle compared to what a distant sun would, but I suppose I'll just need to deal with it. Or make sure the party won't raid the manor until nightfall. Thanks for the help. I hope Roll20 will update it eventually.
