Character Importing Question

1491831991

Edited 1491832322
In an effort to make my games run smoother with fewer pauses and less lag, I was thinking about sticking the vast majority of my already premade monsters in the Character Vault and importing as needed. The question, though, is: Can I import a character into a game that I'm in the middle of DMing and have it show up without having to refresh the screen/session?

Yes. As the DM, characters will show up after you import them with no extra steps needed.

You can also do that with Transmogrifier without leaving the game to go to the character vault.
Oh, nice! Thanks for the answers. I asked because, unless I'm misunderstanding, when the game is active, ALL the characters, to include monsters, are loading up and updating the whole time which might be putting a strain on mine and my player's systems.

You're correct. Great! (As in "Great! I'm on the right page!" and "I have a plan to help with this!") Thanks for the input, Silvyre.

What is the case with characters that are "archived"? Does that actually remove them from being loaded, or just from being displayed in the Journal tab?

All archives in Roll20 are purely organizational and have no impact on memory. I take advantage of this fact for my script help handouts/characters by archiving them, but they are still accessible by hyperlink or for using their attributes/abilities.

Thanks, I figured that was the case. I moved all of my non-current characters to a library campaign a while ago. I was just curious what the function actually did.
