It's Valentine's day at Woodcrest High and classes let out early for the Valentine's day dance. It's a nervous time - you haven't asked anyone yet (although you've thought a lot about it), and nobody has asked you either (which is terrifying). However, you just know that something will happen to make this day special. There's a tension in the air, sitting in Mr. Neal's homeroom class, waiting for the 9am bell to ring. People eye each other wondering 'Who is going to ask whom?' 'Who'll make the first move?' Beneath this facade of revelry, romance, and sex, the teachers are acting strangely, and something sinister appears to be brewing... This will be "a story game about the messy lives of teenage monsters", which focuses on supernatural high-school escapades in the same vein as Buffy The Vampire Slayer, True Blood, Vampire Diaries, Twilight, etc, with some Mean Girls thrown in for good measure, and then lampooning all of that. In this you'll play your choice of many teenage tropes, such as Vampires, Werewolves, or Witches, maybe make a dark pact with demons imbuing you with terrible powers (always at a price), or just a plain old mortal, able to ignite the fire that burns within anyone, just to name a few. A couple items of note, Monsterhearts has adult content. There will almost certainly be sex involved (although not explicit, more like racy network TV sex) and this will deal with mature themes. However, it will also be silly. Monsterhearts can be played seriously, delving into real issues of sexuality that young people struggle with, but that's not the game I'm looking for. Characters will struggle with their sexuality and teenage hormones, but in a light-hearted way. I'd like to do character creation and rules introduction on Thursday, April 27th at 7pm central time, and play in the late afternoon of Sunday April 30th. I'm flexible on times and dates, but let's use those as a guideline for now. We'll use voice over Discord. Experience is not necessary. The rules are simple enough that you'll be able to pick them up during character creation. I'd strongly encourage narrative-minded people to join. If you are combat-focused or delight in power-gaming the system, this may not work for you.
