Chat log history needs a new format

As campaigns go on, especially ones that are level 1-20, the chat log history gets bogged down. So much so it gets buggy and locks up roll20. If there is a way to convert it into a text doc or something that would be great. In its current format it seems like it takes up tons of memory.

Does clearing chat history help? You can also copy the campaign, and deselect chat history, then continue the campaign in the copy.

Jon , you can save the chat archive as an html document. After opening the chat archive, right click it and select "Save as". Then save it as a "Webpage, complete". Afterwards you can clear your chat archive in the Campaign Details page. Please send me a join link. I would like to see the size of your Chat Archive.
You can click the "clear current chat log" button on the settings tab to clear the portion that is kept in memory(for your computer) while you are in a game session. refreshing the page will bring it back though. You could also clear the entire chat log permanently from the campaign details page if you wanted to, but that seems a little extreme. if you want a copy before you clear it you can probably click on view chat log, then copy and paste to a txt file, but i havent tried it.....

Roger , while Jon has stated "chat log" I believe he is actually referencing Chat Archive. Opening a Chat Archive with an extremely large history could take awhile. You can copy and paste it to a word or txt file but for a very large chat archive itll take awhile to paste into a word file (the pictures paste). Steps to do this: Open the chat archive, hit Ctrl+A (select all), hit Ctrl+C (copy), go to your word or text document and hit Ctrl+V (paste). Then wait forever (if word). Your computer may not successfully do this if the copy/paste is too large (if word). Alternately, you can do it in pieces (simply highlight and copy) but that will get tedious quick.

I will try saving it and see what happens.

Saved it as "Webpage, Complete" and opened it up. Had to leave it alone for about 3-5 minutes so it could load up properly but that seems to work fine. I can't even use the normal chat archive so this is good. :)
Is anyone planning to work on the chat archive soon? It's kind of hard to use without knowing the time or date of the messages, and there's discussion from up to a year ago about people having trouble navigating the archive (or even just loading it) because every post ever made is collected into a single massive, unlabeled wad of text and the only way to shorten it is to nuke the whole thing.
