Edited 1495341016
Hero's Call: Faerûn! Looking for DM & Party Members Hail and well met, my dudes. A little about me… My name is James. I’m 20 and work part-time at a thrift store, where I see more secondhand copies of The Twilight Saga in one day than most people see in their lives. When I’m not working, I’m usually drawing, writing, listening to The Adventure Zone, binge-watching Let’s Plays, or playing video games. What I’m looking for… 4-6 party members and a DM to run a 5e campaign in the spirit of good fun and collective storytelling. Some basic rules and information… Applicants must be LGBT+ friendly. No experience is required, but please be familiar with the rules as listed in the 5th Edition Player’s Handbook. The party will be starting at Level 1. Rolls for attributes and initial character setup will take place before or at the start of the first session. This is not intended to be a one-shot. Applicants should be prepared to commit for the length of time required to “complete” the campaign, which will run over the course of multiple sessions. 2-4 hour sessions will be scheduled weekly or bi-monthly, depending on availability. Sessions will be voice-only over a private Discord server, which has been set up with channels for announcements, questions, in-character roleplay, general chat, and music and atmosphere. You will receive an invitation to the server if you are accepted for the campaign. Using the Roll20 virtual tabletop is optional (to be discussed with the DM). Current Party Composition 1. Half-elf bard 2. Half-orc fighter 3. Elf paladin 4. 5. 6. Dungeon Master 1. If you're interested in joining, please apply for the role of your choice using one of the applications below. Applications will be accepted until May 25th (one week from now), unless otherwise specified. I can be reached here or by PM to answer any questions! Application for Dungeon Masters 1. Introduction Tell me a little about yourself. Name: Age: Pronouns: Timezone: Availability: Hobbies: (Optional) Alliance or Horde? 2. Experience & Playstyle Answer the following in as much detail as you like. What is the extent of your experience as a DM? How would you describe your style of DMing? (Strict, laid-back, combat-heavy, story-driven, homebrew, etc.) Do you have any rules or restrictions of your own? Please explain. Application for Party Members 1. 1. Introduction Name: Noah Age: 21 Pronouns: he/him Timezone: EST Availability: Extremely available during the summer, particularly weekends. Unclear availability starting late August, but if I'm in a campaign I'll work around my schedule to play. Hobbies: D&D, video games (recently, Binding of Isaac and Breath of the Wild), Magic the Gathering (mostly casual drafts), writing fiction, drawing (seriously, I end up doing a lot of art of my and my group's D&D characters) D&D Experience: I have both DM'd and played 5e. In the past two years, I ran an entire campaign and played an entire campaign, the latter of which recently finished. I'm mostly looking for a chance to play while I prepare for a campaign I'm going to start DMing in the fall. All the campaigns I've played in were homebrew worlds, so it'll be interesting to play in Faerun some. Alliance or Horde: Horde. Duh. Trolls and tauren are the best races. 2. Character Information Please describe the character you would like to play. Name: James Mallory Age: 32 Pronouns: he/him Race: human (variant) Class: cleric (war) Alignment: neutral good Background: veteran (I heavily based this on soldier (PHB)/mercenary veteran (SCAG) backgrounds in terms of flavor and skills, but for tool/language proficiencies I went with custom ones of getting Draconic as a language and blacksmith's tools as a proficiency) (Optional) Backstory: Captain James Mallory was left for dead on a battlefield after he ordered his soldiers to retreat while he held the line. He was captured by his nation's enemy, but he was known as an honorable enemy. In particular, a dragonborn cleric of Bahamut named Nahyol spoke for James at his trial. James is officially dead in his nation, and he chose to live with Nahyol, who he had become close friends with. Eventually, James and Nahyol became lovers, and the two were thinking about adopting a child. Recently, Nahyol went missing, with signs of a struggle. James left his new home to search for his partner because he had never liked losing his people.

Name: Thokk Windriver Age:28 Pronouns: he/him/it Race:Half-Orc Class:Rogue Alignment:True Neutral Background: Urchin A small knife, a map of the city you grew up in, a pet mouse, a token to remember your parents by, a set of common clothes, and a belt pouch containing 10 gp (Optional) Backstory: Elsa Windriver, Thokk's mother, was a lovely woman and a fighter. She loved to help those in need and tried to be fair to all those that she met. But she was also a hero that liked to seek adventure. One day her party had embarked to loot an orc hoard’s treasure. There had been word that 3 orc clans came together to kill a dragon for its hoard of treasure. When they had engaged in battle though she was alone. Almost as a distraction. She was captured, tortured, raped, and left for dead. Her adventuring party, it seemed, didn't care to save her, as they were very busy with their new hoard of treasure they had snuck away with. Elsa was a skilled in survival and managed to live long enough to crawl to and be found on a nearby road by a traveling merchant. The merchant was considerate enough to pick the dying woman up from the road administer a health draught and take her to town, but once there he kicked her into the streets to let the towns folk deal with her. The local Thieves Guild Guild master found her, and tended her wounds. The next 9 years were some of the happiest of her life. She had stopped adventuring, but had found love in a man that had taken her and her half-orc unborn son in off the streets. She spent a considerable amount of time writing down her life's adventures and tragedy into journals to hopefully one day share with the world. But tragedy slowly crept back into her life. Over the course of 3 years Elsa become slow to respond and sit long hours staring out the window. At first everyone thought she was sad. The truth was that Elsa was suffering from Draconitis. Although Baldur's Gate had some of the best Clerics and Alchemists, no one could help her. There were many theories as to how she caught the disease, but the one that was most likely; she contracted it lying bleeding to death in the Orc camp among the slain dragon and it’s loot. Elsa, could no longer respond to the world. She has to be fed and cared for every day. Thokk would care for his mother and bring her a flower daily. Thokk had loved his childhood. He was an urchin or “child of the streets” as the townsfolk of Baldur's Gate called him. Always getting into things, or places that he shouldn’t be. Most of the townspeople attributed it to him being “half-orc.” But, they liked his mother who would do anything to help people, so they dismissed his misgivings. In all reality, Thokk was honing his trade. His “father” the guild master would often leave his guild locker open which was filled with books and manuals for thievery, sleight of hand movements, lock picking, and gruesome dealings with enemies. Thokk absorbed it all. His mother praised and loved this man, therefore Thokk would do what he could to be just like him. He was meticulous as a child, tracking his record for how long he could go without being seen in a house. Or see how many items he could move or take without someone noticing. He tracked it all and learned from failures. Ander Greycastle, had noticed the self taught training his “son” was learning. He helped Thokk where he could and gave him small errands, like forging a shop’s books or stealing items from houses for the guild. But this stopped for a while when Elsa got sick. For his tenth birthday, during a moment of clarity, his mother gave Thokk her books. Thokk noticed that there were several books she didn't give him though and this peaked his interest. He cared for his mother daily, picking a flower for her, feeding her, and cleaning her. One afternoon Ander pushed his wife in a cart for a stroll through some of the upper tier gardens. The guards had given Ander a temporary pass to be out of the slums of Baldur's Gate for a short period. Thokk wasn’t granted permission so he stayed home, but sought this opportunity to read the remaining books his mother had given him. He told himself it was ok to read his mothers things, but not to steal them. That night after caring for his mother he read. He learned of his true parentage and of the 3 other that left his mother to die. He learned of what happened to her and of the people that wronged his family. The next day he tried to feed his mother soup. But she couldn’t swallow any longer. Her muscle failure had become to great. He was forced to sit and watch her starve to death. He spoke with his father. They wept for hours and then Thokk went to the guild storage and made a draft of nightshade. Painless, quick, and she would be free. Ander administered the dose by tilting her head back. She went quickly. Something happened when his mother parted this realm. Something clicked in his brain. A hidden savagery that reared its ugly head and decided certain things were ok. That night after they had buried his mother, he read her books, then his fathers books. He poured them into his soul. The next few weeks were training. He was with the senior thieves in the morning, and the guild recruits in the afternoon. Evenings were spent reading. Late at night we would sneak into the guild hall and watch the assassins train. He wasn’t allowed with them, but he was great and not being seen now. He learned and now was ready for his next step. You didn’t ask to be an assassin. You earned it. Thokk had created his list. The merchant, the orc, the adventure party. He knew who to hunt now, and where to start. He had been training hard for weeks because he had heard an old traveling merchant was coming to town. He only had seen this man 4 times in his life, but he knew his mother avoided him, which was rare, because Elsa was friendly to everyone she met. Thokk snuck into the towns archives and found the logs of entries into the city. Shockingly there it was. 13 years ago this man brought a sick woman to the “hospital.” Thokk now knew that was a gutter in the streets. There was a red mark though next to the name. He dug through some of the other books, here and there he would see more red marks. He didn’t know what it meant though. That week the merchant came to town. Once he had set up shop, Thokk browsed his wares. The man was what he had expected. A smarmy salesman only looking out for himself. He had saved his mother from death, only to kick her into the streets. He had made up his mind to right the wrong this man did, but was trying to talk himself out of it. That afternoon he snuck into the new guardsman training. They were a pompous bunch, bragging about kicking homeless people and taking money from prostitutes. This training room was in the higher tier of the city in the Twin district. If Thokk was caught here, he would be put to death. He sat a listening to the racist boring training these entry level guards went through for hours. But then something caught his ear. They were discussing gate entry laws and someone brought up what to do with people not on the list. The fat, balding lead guard sat on his ass drinking mead and laughed. “depends on what they are now doesn’t it?” The new guards looked puzzled. “well,” he started “if they might be of use in the mines for digging, or if they are women and be put to walking the streets....” “what about sick or dead people?” asked a new recruit. “depends on their state. if dead they dont come in, if they are well enough to be healed by the street folk, most likely they will be to poor to do anything else but sleep with the men or dig in the mines. We pay some of the merchants to look for those types. If they deliver, mark the ledger with a red check to note that we paid them. That way the greedy bastards dont ask for more!” There was a lot of laughing and chortling. Thokk couldn’t hear that though. The ringing in his ears was loud. He snuck back to the merchants barrel like mobile cabin. Inside it smelt like stale tobacco and mead. The merchant lay snoring in a drunken haze, key around his neck on a chain. Thokk didn’t hesitate, as he covered the man’s mouth at the same time he plunged his dagger through his throat. The bedding kept Thokk clean and he was grateful. He broke the chain from around the man’s exposed spine, went the the chest and opened it. Stuffed with coins and potions, Thokk looted in and left. It was nightfall and the news spread quickly. One of the prostitutes had been hired that day to keep the merchant company and when she arrived he was dead. The guards were running rampant gathering up witnesses throughout the night. The guild had an emergency meeting. This was a signature kill, but it wasn’t on their ledger. They were afraid what this meant. Ander tried to keep the peace, but was a loss for words when his son dropped from the rafters. The 7 other assassins, startled stood up and drew their weapon of choice. Ander shouted for a lull in the attack. Thokk never breaking eye contact from his father walked slowly toward the front table and lay his bloody dagger, gold, potions, and the blood covered key. He turned to the others and took a seat at the right of the table to be questioned. It was a long evening. There was fear, excitement, and disappointment in the room. Once his reasoning and the methods for performing the attack were out in the open the crew of assassins were speechless. He had performed a justified kill flawlessly his first time out. But Thokk could tell Ander was sad. Many things happened over the next few months. The town began to fear the streets. There was a menace growing. Thokk lost focus... "Its another dark morning. Leaving the bar stinking of mead i had stolen again... I go past that little yellow patch of earth with the bar sign just past it. I pass by the blacksmith and the stables. Somewhere past that, every day I see this guy. There is something that isn't right about him. Maybe he is ill or has some other malady. He wears red tinged armor, and mail pants all with leather and fringy straps. Even now, with it getting colder in the year and the snows coming in, he wears that same old gear, food stained flock with a fist on fire, and an unkempt beard. Each day, I seize him before he makes it to the Brewery, a sacred place, with a sweet honey mead that you can taste on your lips for days. I wait in the alley between the Apothecary and the Galley. This “guard” passes by me, and I heave him into the passageway, and I beat him with my fists. Every once in a while, I stab him with a dagger or rapier. I pick a guy every day. I think it's starting to affect me." Ander seeing the change in his son and realizing that it was probably him that was causing all of the ruckus in the streets gave him an assassination mission the guild had got word of. Ander thought he might snap out of it if he had something to focus on. That night Thokk set off to another town. This was a high priority mission as it dealt with killing a noble. The guild didn't care though, politics wasn’t a priority for them. This was a borderline suicide mission, but Thokk was the best sneak the guild had, even though he was relativity new to killing. Upon arriving in town, he met a man that acted as his benefactor. Said he was the intermediary for a woman that was requesting his service. This man seemed very knowledgeable and connected. Thokk spent days watching the noble and questioning the man. He seemed to know a lot of people like “him,” adventuresome types…

Name: Samantha (Sam) Tanner   Age: 27 Pronouns: She/her/hers Race: Human Class: Ranger Alignment: Neutral good Background: Guild Artisan (Optional) Backstory: Sam was from a small town in a mountain's valley. She had been brought up in the leather working trade. Her father was her teacher, and though they were not famous or wealthy they loved their craft. Sam especially loved to listen to the stories adventurers would tell her as she fixed their bracers or shinned their saddles. As she grew older she dreamed of leaving her small home town and finding adventure of her own. After much pleading she finally convinced her Father to let her go- with one condition: she must also finish her training as a leather worker- they were tanners after all "its in your blood" he would say. So at the age of 18 she packed her bags and left home with only her tools and a bow. After wandering from village to village, Sam took up work where she could; selling leather work and food made from animals she had hunted. Eventually, Sam found a guild master who agreed to help her advance from her apprenticeship. At the age of 25, a full fledged member of a guild Sam set out to return home. She brought with her a belt- finely decorated with images from her journeys as a gift to show her father that she had completed her training. She had heard nothing from him in several months, though this was not out of the ordinary, letters often arrived late or not at all. However, upon cresting a hill overlooking the valley she saw nothing but smoke and rubble. Amidst the debris of her fathers workshop Sam found her father's smoldering remains. That day marked the beginning of her new quest: to find out who destroyed her childhood home and get her revenge. Sam took up her bow to fight. Two years have passed with no leads and Sam is growing worried that she will never know what happened.

On the way, he was beset by street toughs who demanded his money. When Poe told them he was a poor sage's researcher and had no money, the bandits moved in menacingly. Application for Party Members 1. Introduction Tell me a little about yourself. I have an evernote full of top secret recipes and always try to get people's cats to like me.  My passport is full of stamps and I am always open to new experiences. People have described me as an alien who is experiencing earth culture for the first time and cannot get enough of it.  Name: Nate  Age: 31, looks 21... I have Keanu Reeves Face (itus)  Pronouns: He/Him  Timezone: GMT +10:00 Availability: I can move stuff around to make this work, but weekdays 9-5 are out for me due to work Hobbies: Spear fishing, snorkelling, hiking, photography, tinkering, dancing, bad karaoke, cooking, eating, guilt-exercising, reading. D&D Experience:   I've DM'ed since Pathfinder in 2013. Made the switch to 5e in 2015. Since 2013, I've been DMing about two sessions a month and playing maybe once every six months on average (sad face). I have also done a little Shadowrun, but I prefer D&D.  Please describe the character you would like to play. Name: Lotho Hembrian (Lot for short) Age:   19 Pronouns: they/them Race: Halfling Class: Sorcerer Alignment: Lawful Neutral (possibly evolving toward good over time) Background: Outlander (Optional) Backstory: From a young age, I knew that marrying the girl my parents nudged me toward and popping out an army of children was not going to suit me. Everything from it being one person, a specific gender, my parents nudging me, kids, working the farm in my little community ... Didn't quite sit right. I never made a good halfling. Was accepted, but never quite fit in. Knew the rules of our culture, didn't feel awfully compelled to follow them.  It broke my parent's hearts when I decided to leave Caelfall. I was only 15 when I decided to leave my 'fate' behind. To make a new one, in my image. I still see the look of sorrow on their faces, their disappointment in my choices. But then I imagine how things would have been if my abilities manifested in front of them. Would they still have pleaded me to stay? What if they knew of my... proclivities? Better to be missed than driven out I figure. Remain a bitter-sweet memory of an innocent child to them.  [Time in between omitted - for DM eyes only] Anyway, that's way too depressing for where my life is now. Lately, I have been spending my time with a small band of outcasts that didn't quite fit in too. We hunt together, practice our abilities together, sing and dance together, drink together... Talk about a world that could be and fall asleep with dreams of a better tomorrow. To an outside observer, we probably look lost and rudderless. But I know this time has put me on a journey to find meaning and purpose. To learn about life and myself. I've been here for a while now. As much as it saddens me to think this...  it may be time to move on and seek out my next adventure.

Application for Dungeon Masters 1. Introduction Fairly new DM with hardly a year under my belt. I've been a player of DnD for a good two years now and the past months have been getting into Dming with my group. I'm hoping to add more experiences with new people under my belt so I can perfect the craft someday.  Name: Austin Age: 21 as of May 29th,2017 Pronouns: He/Him Timezone: (UTC-5:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) Availability: Currently, Tuesday & Thursday-Sunday, however subject to change. Hobbies: Video games, creative writing, video recording/editing, MTG and DnD roleplaying! Alliance or Horde? Both . 2. Experience & Playstyle What is the extent of your experience as a DM? As of now my total extent of being a DM has been eight complete sessions, few months of DMing. Five sessions being in 5th edition and two being in Degenesis:Rebirth. I still consider myself new, but I'm always willing to learn and have been taking time to read over the 5e books. Rules still get hazy with me, but mastering them comes over time. I've yet to finish and entire campaign with my group, but my group has been satisfied with my Dming style and have been kind enough to help me along the way when we have our momentary rule roadblock every once in awhile. Hopefully the inexperience isn't too much of a displacement; I'm hoping to become a master at 5th edition someday but I need the experience to do it. How would you describe your style of DMing? I consider myself a laid-back, story-driven DM. I homebrew only for the sake of my players. Some players don't enjoy the weight system, so I homebrew to simplify it and make the game more easy going. I also enjoy the rule of cool, which means with enough decent rolls I can allow something silly to happen if it's not too crazy. (But crazy can be fun too.) Either way, I enjoy getting my player's and their characters involved as soon as possible with the story. Sometimes, even bending the story around their character's histories. I put my best efforts to service the player's desires rather than my original story path.  Do you have any rules or restrictions of your own? I won't lie. Multiclassing along with the fewer complex rules make me a bit nervous. I'm still learning how it works, as I've had to teach casual players 5e and roll 20 from the ground up. I will never say you can't do something that's standard within 5th edition, but I might be leaning on the players to know what they can and can't do sometimes as I learn. Aside from that I'm extremely open to adding in interesting homebrews as long as the rest of the players are okay with it. I'm not strict, I just follow the standard rules to the best of my abilities, focusing on having fun with the campaign rather than nailing those that forget the occasional restriction every once in a blue moon.

Name: Jara Age:14 Pronouns: (He/Him/It) Race: Human Class: Ranger Alignment: Chaotic Good Background: Outlander  (Optional) Backstory:   Jara was an exceptional tracker and hunter for his nomadic tribe at a young age of 8, being one of the youngest to begin hunting alone. He even began taking long extended trips to hunt rarer game for his tribe it was one said trip that he managed to get stuck during a storm. Not daring to venture what appeared like a hurricane he chose to make camp till it stopped. This took nearly 8 hours but made him lose tracks of his tribe. Instead of chasing after them he decided to wait four seasons in the migration route. Four seasons later and another storm he found that they have not arrived yet. He decides to trek the migrational route at three times the pace they would normally walk. Jara would of been quite confident in this plan.    Some time during this he found the remnants of his tribe destroyed and mostly burnt. Only evidence of there existence was the tribe banners tattered and ruined among skeletons. He took the banner and buried his family. He has since than been traveling the wilderness for anyone who have seen his tribe members for survivors or who have done it. Mostly looking to other Rangers and scouts eventually one tells him his best bet would be to check the cities seeing as it's been near 5 years of him traveling alone. Even if he doesn't find the answers being around civilization would do him good even revealing themselves on being on a similar journey. So he took off with the ranger till he separated after they arrived close to a settlement.   Jara has never been the best with people. He eats with his hands and tends to pick up things he shouldn't out of curiosity. He always done good by them. When he hear people in trouble he gets involved. Kindness is a virtue the wilderness doesn't have, but if you're lucky you get mercy. The people he is after probably won't be that lucky.
