Token Settings

I'm getting ready to DM a game for the first time. I'm playing with the maps and lighting settings. It seems like every time I place a PC token on the member I have to reselect has sight, emits light, etc. I am clicking save changes but every time I place the same token on a new map I have to do it again. Is there a way to make those changes more permanent?
Also, how can I move the tokens to a new map? do I just click delete on the old map and then place them? I assume that would wipe the settings as well.

Open the character sheet, click "Edit" Delete the old default token. Click "Use selected token" (with the adjusted token selected on the board.) What you have been doing is saving the edits for that specific instance of a token, not the default used for the character sheet. It's a very common beginning error. Here is a helpful guide: https://wiki.roll20.net/Linking_Tokens_to_Journals

Did all that. rebuilt the entire character from scratch and it still doesn't work
When that guide says create a journal entry, is that the same as creating a character sheet in the journal?
Yes, the guide was created before there were character sheets on Roll20
Ok, thanks for the advice. Still can't get it to work like that. I'll have to think of a workaround. Not that big a deal I guess. I could always put all the tokens on the first map and have them set up correctly then copy and paste as the players move from map to map
Can you give some more detail about what is not working? The basic steps are: 1) Add a character in the Journal. 2) Create a token on the tabletop. 3) Link the token to the character. 4) Customize token size and bars, and vision, aura, and light settings. 5) With the token selected on the tabletop, open the character in the Journal and click the Edit button. 6) If there is currently a token in the Default Token section, click Remove, and confirm the deletion. 7) Click the Use Selected Token button in the Default Token section. 8) Click the blue Save Changes button. 9) Drag the character's name from the Journal to the tabletop to re-create the token with all the settings you had made. If you make any changes to the token that you want to always be there, you will need to repeat steps 5 through 8.
Yes, I did all of those steps. The token on the board has sight, I went into the token settings and populated the bars. And actually when I used the drop down with what stats to put in the bars, it auto filled from the character sheet. So then once I had everything set on the token and saved, I clicked edit on the character sheet, removed the default token and clicked use selected. It repopulated the default token picture. Then I saved the character edit screen. But then when I drag the token on to a map. It doesn't have any of the settings.

Those sound like the right steps but unexpected results. Very strange.
I'm thinking maybe it's this module. I started a brand new character from a new sheet, used a brand new picture I hadn't used for a token. The token populated when I linked it to the character, but when I set it as default and dragged it on to a map no settings. I'm just going to skip dynamic lighting. More trouble than it's worth
I think I'll just copy and paste the tokens as the party moves from map to map. And skip dynamic lighting for now. It's just a game for some old friends to get together so I'm not too worried about it being professional quality.
But I do appreciate the help

You might be able to get around your issue with Game Defaults?
Maybe, I hadn't thought of that

Question, are you hitting save on the token menu before opening the character to set the default token? A module shouldn't be able to override your ability to change token defaults.
Yes I hit save first. I did change the default in the game settings to have sight and emit light. So now when I drag a token from the character sheet it keeps those settings at least. It isn't keeping the bars, but that's less an issue
