Before the Hutt Meeting

By now you should have received from me an e-mail (or will soon this weekend) containing information to link you into Port Tooga a bit more along with rumors you have heard in your travels. As discussed during our session zero, if you would like to do one or two brief things on Port Tooga before meeting at the coordinates given to you for the Hutt meeting, please use this thread for that. If it is something private you don’t want your fellow players knowing about, please send me a Roll20 PM instead.  I'll chime in if a roll is needed or anything like that. In Star Wars game time you have one hour before you need to be at the coordinates. It takes about 5 minutes to travel to the coordinates from most places on Port Tooga.  Have at it!
I would like to see what  the local traders can tell me about  the nova blades and the black hole pirates  things like their rep around here and some major figures maybe.

1Succes advantage
Though slimey, Jad has a good point about grabbing up opportunity. Vez will have to bite the bullet and "hold his nose and jump in" like the mechanic said.  Confirming that all the ships corridors that Jad didnt need to access (mainly the bunk rooms and the cockpit) were locked, Vez grabbed his gear and headed off the spaceport and into Tooga proper. Heading to the Tooga Bizzare, Vez is going to try to play on the rumor regarding a certain persons propensity for purple. And look for a purple shawl that could be cut for a hutt...preferably within his price range.
Wave said: 1Succes advantage You ask around and talk to some of the vendors in Shoola's Ring and the Tooga Bazaar.  Many of them are only too happy to vent about their frustrations and harrowing experiences with these pirates.  A couple of the vendors point at your blaster and hope you can shoot some holes in their heads.  Here's what you learned: The Black Hole pirates have the reputation of being about the lowest scum there is.  They are said to be dirty, smelly, ugly, and mean.  The belief is that they have a base somewhere in the unexplored depths of Wild Space.  When they attack they tend to swarm with a bunch of smaller ships. The Nova Blades have the reputation of being cunning pirates using tricks and leverage to get what they want.  It's widely believed that they have one or more bases in the Abrion Sector (grid S15 on the galaxy map).

And look for a purple shawl that could be cut for a hutt...preferably within his price range. It doesn't take you long to find a couple of vendors that sell clothing wares that are purple.  There's an older human female vendor and a middle-aged male Gran vendor.  The human's prices are lower and of a good quality.   The Gran's items are of a higher quality, more expensive, and advertises fancy gift wrapping available.  Both vendors seem to have long purple shawls or scarfs that are already fitted for larger creatures. Pricing: 25 - 35 credits for a space cotton blend 45 - 60 credits for a luxury pure space cotton with a high thread count and soft texture 75 - 100 credits for an unbelievably soft silk from some exotic creature Given the above, which vendor do you want to approach, which price point are you interested in, and do you want to haggle at all using perhaps Negotiate, Charm, or Coercion (intimidate)?  Another option is to try and steal using Skulduggery, but because the item is so large and the vendors are vigilant for theft, that approach would be quite difficult.
'Rumor control time,' idle thoughts by the Mando as a few of these rumors perked her interest. First to the bounty boards to see if something had been placed for either the crime lord who slipped his bill, and to see if any of her Vods had been posted for bounty with the reason of murder. Then a call home to find out about her missing Vod. Finally a call into the local Bounty hunter Guild hall to find out about a Hunters recent actions, hearing one of these people hadn't picked up a bounty in over a month worried her, even if they weren't Vods she considered them closer than most aruetii. [Vod means brother/sister in Mando'a. but is used to talk about other Mandalorians in either the same clan or not. Aruetii is someone not apart of the Mando culture.]

[Vod means brother/sister in Mando'a. but is used to talk about other Mandalorians in either the same clan or not. Aruetii is someone not apart of the Mando culture.] From the bounty boards about the crime lord, you don't see anything, which strikes you as quite odd.  If you had to guess, this is either strictly an Imperial matter that should be left alone, or someone has opted to bypass the public bounty hunter listings and contracted something privately, probably at great expense. There's a bounty listing for a being named Ult Kryze that captures your attention.  The listing is for 50,000 credits and directs interested parties to visit in person their local Imperial base or embassy for more information. You call home about your missing Vod and learn that he has been returned home safely but was badly mistreated.  The assault operation to retrieve him went poorly and Vod lives were lost.  Ongoing interrogations have yielded next to nothing.  You get the impression that only a small circle at the top know more, and they are keeping their mouths shut about it for the time being. You call the local guild aboard Port Tooga about the aruetii hunter that hasn't picked up a bounty in over a month.  You are told that over a month ago an entry was made for that hunter's serial number stating tersely, "Temporarily inactive.  On extended hiatus for the foreseeable future."
Vez makes his way to the Gand who has the higher quality items. He's eyeing the highest quality product (#3). Pointing at the nicest purple one, Vez asks in Huttesse the price. After being told the price Vez will say "Well, that seems like a fair price for such craftsmenship. Unfortunately i do not believe i can afford something at that price. Let me just say though, this is a gift for the Great Shoola the Hutt. If you give me a discount i'll be sure to mention your name to her. With the luxuriousness of this shawl i'm sure it will lead to further business for you. Most likely in bulk." (Deception?)

(Roll 20's dice roller is apparently not my friend what with all the positive dice being blank lol) - total result netted out to be 1 failure
Kurtis first action out of the hospital is to stop at his apartment and get his travelers cloak and backpack with all his items. Then he will head to the market to see if he can find any news about the Imperials in the Sector. Particularly a group that stopped at Tortuga to have a meeting a month ago. (underworld?)
Ohyeah21 said: (Roll 20's dice roller is apparently not my friend what with all the positive dice being blank lol) - total result netted out to be 1 failure The Gran makes a face and seems offended.  He says in a snooty tone, "Really?  You must think I haven't heard that tactic before on this station.  Perhaps the human would like something more in his price range instead, such as this?"  He points to the luxury cotton version.

Well I got a failure with 2 advantages
Pointing back at the higher end version, Vez would slap a credstick with 75 units on it on the table and say, "75 for the nice one." This was the lower end of the spectrum for such a nice piece but hopefully it would do. (skill check?) If the Gran Takes the offer:  He'll pay the agreed amount and pack away the present, folding it neatly to present to Shoola at the meeting. In the event the Gran doesnt take the offer: than Vez would walk away saying "I suppose you do not want to make a sale today. To bad your prices are outrageous!" (deception to the crowd)
Char makes his way from his place to the market,  checking in with friends and acquaintances to hear what news there is before the meeting.  He observes the hustle and bustle of daily life on the port, in particular a human spacer trying to haggle with the Gran textiles merchant.  The shistavanen meanders over to the booth, taking a look at the fancy clothing. He had recently done a repair job for the Gran on his equipment.  Hey ( InsertNPCName),   how is it going?  The loom still working okay?
Max F. said: Well I got a failure with 2 advantages At the mention of the Empire's visit to Port Tooga or Imperials in this sector, you see either apprehension or outright fear in the eyes of the vendors you approach.  They either try and change the subject to pointing out one of their wares they think you might like, or they just look at you with averted eyes and don't say anything and hope you will leave.  You wonder since you are human if they perhaps think you may be with the Empire and it's a trap of some sort. One comlink vendor mumbles something under his breath as you walk away, "Why's he asking me?  The Imps met with Shoola.  He should ask her ."  He then erupts into a soft chuckle.

The Gran looks up from the credstick slapped on the counter and is about to open his mouth to make a reply to Vez when a white Shistavanen addresses the Gran. " Hey Aak-Yees, how is it going? The loom still working okay?" "Oh. Hello, Char.  Yes, it is.  In fact, it is working better than before it broke.  I don't know how you managed to do that."  The Gran's demeanor seems to soften a bit at the thought.  "Excuse me while I conclude some business."  He turns his attention back to Vez and says, "Very well, human.  75 credits it is, but I'm not going to gift wrap it for you."  As he starts carefully folding it up he says, "I suggest you do something to pretty up the presentation before presenting this."  He then looks you over with his three eyes up and down as he finishes the folding and says, "On second thought, you might be better off presenting this gift as is."  He gives you a big grin showing you much of his gums and yellow teeth as he passes you the neatly folded shawl.
As a  shistavanen made himself known, the Gran presented what could only be considered a rye grin, and provided Vez with the item in exchange for his credits.  Rolling his eyes and doing his best not so seem to annoyed at the dig the Gran had said, he'll jokingly say to the Shistavanen "Careful if you're thinking of trading with this one, he has an eye for his trade. Must be that third one there."  After securing his purchase, and not having anything in particular to linger on in the market, Vez would begin making his way towards the palace, taking a longer route so he could stop past the cantina on the way. He had no more money, but perhaps he could rectify that at the expense of one of the more inebriated members of the clientele. Hopefully his quick hands wouldn't fail him like his quick tongue had.

In a small cantina on your way you spot a male Fallen and a female Quarren in different areas of the cantina that have an unsteady gait.  The Fallen looks a little sullen as he returns to his empty table while the Quarren looks jovial and is patting beings on their shoulder in a friendly way as she crosses the room.
Vez eyeballs the pair for a moment to get an idea of what kind of mark each is (Perception?). His initial intuition is that the female is either relying on people to buy her drinks, or just won money from the quarren. The quarren is most likely the best mark as sad people usually bring their own money to the bar. He knows he doesn't have a lot of time. him not being able to afford a drink to blend in is suspicious and he doesnt want to be late for the meeting.

R1-G glides toward the center of the crowded Tooga Bazaar, to where the lights are brightest. Though tall, with a trio of ocular sensors creeping above the swamp of organic life, the droid is a spindly, spider-like thing. Its curious appendages creep outward and retract when they touch the rough canvas of a passing spacer's duffel, or warty Gamorrean skin. Gradually, its focus shifts to the monument that dominates the Bazaar: an enormous, gilded holographic projector that displays endless images of Shoola the Hutt in various states of authority (with Jerry's permission.) The droid appreciates the algorithms which generate these images as it connects to a nearby console, engaging with a terse and unimaginative Port Tooga server. R1-G attempts to secure: 1. A detailed map of Port Tooga 2. The "real" map of Port Tooga 3. Any unusual activity that might be tied to the illicit manufacturing, slicing, or sale of droids 4. Any available information about Jad
Ohyeah21 said: Net of 3 successes That's a good roll.  You see an instance of the quarren female pick pocketing credits from a cantina patron as she does a little dance in front of the being pretending to start left, then right to get around the being, mirroring his attempts to get around her.  The fallen male seems content to just sit at his table, and you see a 3/4 empty bottle on his table.  He reaches to pour himself some more from the bottle.  From the shape of the bottle, it could be something top shelf.

Avoiding the quarren as the pick pocket is probably just pretending to be drunk, Vez would stroll past the sullen faleen.  In his passing he would make a play for his cred stick, or something of similar value (like a pistol).  should he succeed he'd move off as inconspicuous as possible. If he fails, he intends to pretend like he was drunkenly  patting him to get his attention and points out the quarren as a pickpocket! (Will rp either of these in my next post)

net of 1 success and 1 advantage. Can the advantage be that in addition to whatever other items i'm able to snag, i'm also able to grab his fancy flask of high quality correllian brandy? (PS wont be selling that)
Jim B. said: 2. The "real" map of Port Tooga 2 successes, 2 threat JERRY: It's very challenging, but you manage to bypass the sophisticated security and are behind the firewall to be able to view a detailed map of Port Tooga in 3 dimensions.  However, you aren't able to download the map without almost certainly alerting someone, and you came very close you think to tripping something as it is.  Hence, what you can do is view segments of the map at a time.  You can see besides the public information about the vendors that there is information about the residence levels, hangars, and the maintenance levels.  You have read only access to this information and can currently access it from other terminals in the future provided that the security algorithms don't change anytime soon. There's another firewall to bypass if you want information about the palace that looks equally daunting to slice, if not worse. 3. Any unusual activity that might be tied to the illicit manufacturing, slicing, or sale of droids. 3 successes, 1 advantage   JERRY: There are a few droid vendors on the station that advertise selling refurbished or gently used droids.  Searching deeper and matching deliveries with cargo manifests there seems to be some evidence of illegal droid protocols and parts passing through a droid vendor shop named Kobbi's Droid Emporium that's owned by a Toydarian 4. Any available information about Jad 3 failures, 2 advantage... yikes!   JERRY: Jad has apparently been very thorough in either erasing his non-public information or they were never recorded to begin with.  However, you do see some curious information in starship repair records indicating that a being with a certain employee number seems to be noticeably paid better, gets choicer assignments, and only works a few hours here and there.

(PS wont be selling that) You manage to use the distraction of an attractive waitress walking past his table.  You walk up close to stand near the falleen's table and do the gentlemanly thing of letting the waitress pass before you walk out of the cantina.  You manage to lift from the falleen's pocket a credit stick with 100 credits on it and also lift a small metal flask about the size of a metal lighter that has a small dent in it.  The flask is empty but has the powerful smell of some kind of exotic liquor, perhaps a falleen aperitif of some kind.   You look at the time and think you better quicken your pace to the coordinates.
Vez hoofs his way towards the palace much faster than might be necessary. He would sniff the flask once more, the smell was quite nice actually. Tucking the flask in his shirt pocket, he would hustle his way towards the meeting.  It never wise to keep a hutt waiting.

With a final rebuke, the server sends R1-G's datajack recoiling back into its open pincer. Burning hot fragments of ICE wriggle through the droid's code and are snuffed, one by one. It is a painful process, and very lengthy, with a runtime of 2892ms. That completed, R1-G initiates a quick simulation on the probability of its own destruction based on a number of current environmental factors including, but not limited to, keeping a Hutt waiting. The simulation returns a nontrivial number. It determines the optimal route toward the meeting and departs.
Char smirks at the comment and watches the spacer walk off to the local cantina.  He decides to meander away, bidding farewell to the merchant, and makes his way to the Hutt's abode.
