[OLD] The Weekly Game Thread

This thread is for discussing the upcoming weekly game. The game this week is on Saturday, June 10 at 1 pm EDT (UTC -4, so 4 pm UTC), and we will be using Burning Wheel. To make a reasonable commitment to show up for the gaming session, please post in this thread. Any questions or comments are also welcome.
I've never played burning wheel before but I'm willing to give it a go. Will you be using pre-gens or will you be having us create our own P.C.'s??
We'll be burning our own characters (which is what Burning Wheel calls character creation). I'm still reading the rulebook for the first time, so creating pregens would be kinda tough for me right now. Luckily, a couple of people more familiar with it have expressed interest in playing.
Well that's good maybe they can help the rest of us with P.C. creation. I've never heard of "Burning wheel" so I'm completely in the dark here.
Posting here because i want to go and never played so no idea what rules are but heard a lot about it and sounds very interesting to play  though may need you to explain rules or make a hand out

EDIT: A free copy of the rulebook is said to be available from the creator's website, and it's the same copy as described below, but the one described below might not always be on sale free of charge. A .pdf copy of the Burning Wheel rulebook appears to be available legitimately free of charge at drivethrurpg.com. It's a gaming rulebooks, novels, and media store that normally charges money for products, but charges nothing for Burning Wheel. The rulebook comes bundled with some other stuff, including charsheets, in a zipfile, and you do have to register with an email address and go through a checkout process requiring no additional information in order to download the zipfile. Since I obtained it free of charge, maybe the Rule20 Terms of Service permit me just to put it in my Google Drive and provide players with a download link. I'll ask around, but if anyone knows for a fact whether that's allowed, please let me know.
Proposal for homebrew rule for the Saturday game: In Help situations, players cannot physically hand dice to each other as the rules require, so I propose we let the helper roll the one or two help dice while the helpee rolls the standard test dice, and then we pool the die rolls into the same test roll. What do people think?

I need a vote from those who plan to play on Saturday whether you want to start with 1 Fate and 1 Persona or 3 Fate and 2 Persona. My vote is on the latter because it'd offer more flexibility for character development in your first experience with BW.
Fate? Persona?? Sure what ever you think is best boss. As far as the dice rolling goes again whatever you think is best. :-) Just tell me what I need to roll and I'll rollem :-)

I've crated seven roughly 300-word handouts and put them in the Handouts tab: 1 - Die Rolling in Burning Wheel 2 - Tests 3 - The Numeric Aspects of a Character 4 - The Non-Numeric Aspects of a Character 5 - OOC Votes and Tests 6 - The GM is a Player 7 - Burning Your Character You can read them any time you want, including at gametime tomorrow; but, as you can see from them, we start playing at least an OOC version of Burning Wheel as soon as there are three people in the room (even if the GM is not present).
I'm pretty sure i can play although ill have to look through those handouts cause i have never even seen a burning wheel game played in my life XD Is there magic or schools for magic? Is it common? What kind of world do people live in? Is it like LOTR were dwarves live underground and elves are stuck up woodland creatures? Or is it different like one system i played where elves were legends and a race to be feared? Also are there half-elves? I'm just not too familiar with the world Also can I claim one of those character sheets?

Let me know which one so I can change permissions so only you can edit it, and let me know whether you want other players to be able to see it. The setting of Burning Wheel is a relatively realistic Neo-Medieval one. There is magic, but how we'll handle magic and other things is explained in the handouts.
I have insomnia, so I've been spending time fussing with today's game. I changed the zillion handouts to two simple and not-too-long ones that are a lot more true to the rulebooks. One has very short, simple paragraphs on the dice mechanics and very short, simple descriptions of things you need to know about your character before you burn the character. The other handout is just a list of Lifepath Settings for each race with any Birth Liepath for that Setting and any Leads from that Birth LIfepath to other Settings. I figure it's simplest for people who don't know anything about Burning Wheel to skim over the first handout and then start burning their characters by picking the Birth Lifepath and the third LIfepath Setting they want to be in when their character starts adventuring. Their second Lifepath can be the transition from the Birth one to the third one. Two other people already went a pretty long way into burning their characters, and I brought their charsheets in line with the rulebook, but there is some stuff they'll have to do over. Sorry!
Having trouble figuring out how to make character and was mostly just trying to get the books hoping would help and tell me how to make a character along with all options i have
Since the session is over I'll post a wrapup and then archive this thread. The next session will be planned in a separate thread, and so will the system.
