SORRY THIS CAMPAIGN IS FULL. IF YOU WOULD LIKE A STANDBY SLOT, PLEASE POST HERE OR PM THE DM, JAMES J. This campaign is seeking roleplayers who will portray dynamic, detailed characters with familial lineage, and back-story. The game will start as a TEACHING game at 1st level FOR NEW PLAYERS of 2nd Edition AD&D. The DM has played AD&D since 1979. Expect three to five adventures per level, depending on the story and player actions, which will dynamically shape the campaign. If your character as a noble decides to spark a war, pay for it, muster troops, and the war is on. The DM is there to inject challenging events, but the players will make decisive choices many times over the length of the campaign. The Characters will star in and write the history by Player choices and in-game actions, but beware. The game involves assassinations, spying, counter-spies, sabotage and destruction of crops, courtly intrigue and treachery, and plagues cast upon enemy Domains. Be careful what you wish for, and who you ally with. The campaign will use "Birthright" Style rules from the 2e Birthright Boxed set (TSR 1996) to administer lands, politics, and economic control of lands run by player character leaders, in a Homebrew setting designed by the Dungeon Master. Characters can (at their preferred option) portray normal adventurers, or leaders and retainers of the noble courts of rulers of small fiefdoms, (all part of a moderate sized kingdom), charged with their protection and development. The game will involve seasons between adventures, so that characters will age and develop over time, with each adventure occurring roughly 4 times per in-game year. Power politics, espionage, and courtly intrigue will all be factors. Players that choose to run a Domain (slice of the kingdom) as Regent will be required to submit a short list of tasks between game sessions to administer their domains, and get a report from the DM on how their holdings are doing. Players that portray men at arms, or non-blooded non-noble characters will not have this requirement. The Ancient History: Nearly 4,000 years ago, the Iron Empire of Siriene was noted for its advanced mining and engineering. It ruled the continent known as the Land of Etarnon for over 2,500 years before the Age of Dragons, when the Capitol Metropolis of Sirasea was destroyed, leaving behind only temples and ruins. The Middle History: The Kingdoms and Realms of the current campaign emerge, and centuries of strife followed, culminating in year 666, the "Year of Daemons" when the Religious Order of the Azure Orb, Guardians of the Portals of Narkazir, (the Kingdom of the Five Peaks) fell into disgrace. Thus the Portals were opened, and the Taint of Shadow fully entered the world without restriction. The Recent History: For another decade, peasant uprisings, religious unrest, failed military campaigns, and the deaths of key Regent leaders of many domains have created a power vacuum in the Kingdom. Present Day: It is now the Year 676, The people need leadership, and the lands need the Bloodlines of heroes. Who will rise to rule? Pre-Generated Characters will be available. Players can get with the DM to generate a character on their own, if they wish. Interested players, please note: The setting is very specific. This is not "Generic" D&D with "The Whole Kitchen Sink". This is also not the "Birthright" setting from the Boxed set, but uses most of those rules. - Not all classes, and races of Traditional D&D will be available. - All of the game pantheon has been created completely differently from any other setting. Clerics will have to select and play a member of a specific faith and adhere to their own special rules, as fits the setting. there are no "Generic Clerics" A list will be issued of options. - Wizards, and other magic users are Rare. A list of options will be presented. - Critical Hits and Fumbles will be used in combat. - Healing magic is relatively rare, expensive, and heals wounds over time, instead of instantly. - Player characters can command units in battle via the War Cards system of Birthright. Post here with questions, or if you are interested in playing. Include your experience with 2nd Edition or "Birthright", and some sort of idea of what kind of character you might like to portray. Again, some classes will not be available. (I'm working on a list.) Preference in player selection will be given to SERIOUS players that have interesting ideas. I'm hoping to find people that are willing to put forth effort, show up, and play with enthusiasm. I'm not looking for power gamers, bullies, or Min/Maxers. This will not be Monty Python accents, not run as a joke, or for comedic purpose. I'm a serious DM, running a gritty campaign, and silliness will not be encouraged, as a rule. I've put lots of time into this whole setup as players will ultimately discover, so please do not waste the time I've taken to create this. I'm putting forth a massive effort to share it with the community of interested players. Fun, dramatic, hoping to be intense, with a tinge of horror. The setting will be there. It will be up to the players to step up and give it their best shot. More to come...including maps, history, etc. Stay Tuned.
