okay so me and some friends have decided to play the game together for the first time and ive been volunteered as the gm. i have put together a little map and some characters/NPCs but i actually have zero clue as to whether or not its all correct and usable. but the main thing i need help with is knowing what die to roll in what situations, how turns work and what determines what attribute points someone gets. would be helpful if someone could talk me through what i need to know or point me to a youtube video. thanks. DandD5 for the game btw XD
Hey Alex , You didn't say what RPG game you are looking to be a game master of. I would suggest grabbing the Game Master or at least start with the players guide/manual of the game you are looking to play. Each RPG game is different, so without knowing which one you are intending on playing, i don't think many people here would be able to help, unless you want us to start guessing. Thanks!
oh man i completely forgot about that. its d and d edition 5. so is there a manual on the web i can find or do i have to buy one?

You can find the basic rules  here . The Systems Reference Document (SRD) as one document is  here , though it is available in searchable chunks within Roll20. Please not that while either document contains enough information to run a basic game, neither one is anywhere near complete. They are intended to allow people to "dip their toes in" or to produce basic content to self-publish (check the rules and disclaimers Wizards provides before attempting the latter). The Basic Rules tell you how to play, the SRD is a collection of character generation rules, Spells, Equipment, Monsters and other resources. As for learning to play, the absolute best way is to find an existing group or DM willing to teach (there are many on the  Group Listing which advertise that they accept newbie players). Failing that, there are any number Youtube How To Play videos. I would suggest the folks at  Nerdarchy for the most comprehensive collection of D&D 5e videos. If you are looking for content, Roll20 provides a free adventure called The Master's Vault (you can find it on the  Start New Game page), that will walk you through an adventure for beginning players (Though it still requires a Dungeon Master).
thank you for the help :D
Take a look at the videos of this guy here, i'd learned a lot through his videos about roll20 itself (not especially about D&D). Link
