Session 3 - Steve's Town Session

Steve Darkmagic would like to use his urchin skills to identify the source of thieve's tools in the town, he would like to negotiate hard on price, and if they are unavailable for all his gold or for barter of some other goods or services, mark their location and attempt to steal them using stealth and his mage hand cantrip.

Steve finds a Redbrand ruffian low on funds in a back alley near the Sleeping Giant that is willing to part with his personal set of Thieve's Tools for 25gp. With a successful roll of a Persuasion or Intimidate check (your choice) against DC 10, the ruffian will drop the price by 20% to 20gp.

(Note that 25gp is the price listed in the PHB on page 154.)

I beat the persuasion check (thanks to a 5 modifier, whew) and offer him 6 gold, 2 daggers (4gp total per PHB), and my dungeoneer's kit (12 gp per PHB) minus the rope attached to the side, which I would keep.

He isn't going to value the daggers & kit at full price, given that he is looking for coin and won't himself be able to sell those items at full retail price. "I don't got no need for that there bag – what the fuck are these spikes anyway?", the ruffian says as he rummages through the pack and pulls out a couple of pitons. "Look. The daggers I'll take. I guess I could try and trade that pack for some coin to the next merchant on their way to Triboar, though those are few and far between for a ten-day at least. Gods be cursed... make it 9 gold and they're yours." You get the feeling that this is the best offer he is going to give you.

I give him what he asks, being sure to take the rope off the pack as per my offer, and adjust my inventory accordingly.
