SOMEBODY save the OLD GUY... PLEASE!!!

I'll make a short story long here... I am currently 44 years old. I played D&D for many years when I was younger before switching to MMORPG's. For an idea of how long ago that was, the last time I played, many of our group refused to accept 2nd edition as cannon due to all of the changes from the original rule set. So yeah, I'm freaking old. I find myself exhausted with the MMO industry and the trolls that inhabit their worlds. I long for the fun I had sitting at a table with my friends until the wee hours in the morning, laughing and making our own memories. Needless to say, I am waaaaay behind on the current state of the game, but, judging from many an episode of Critical Role, on YouTube, the core concept of the game remains the same; so I'm familiar with saving throws, damage rolls, etc. I'm very accustomed to playing "in character" as I have only inhabited "Role Play" servers during my time in MMO's. My personal favorite character to play would be a bard; charisma maxed out along with a relatively high intelligence score, supporting the group and wooing the ladies. I'm also good with tanky / heroic classes. Paladins are my personal favorite of those (usually a fallen Paladin turned Merc), though I have played a variety of other classes in my day. I would, however, be willing to play any needed class if it would better the group. While open to any productive group, I would really like to find a group of my fellow old peoples.  It's more fun when the people you play with get your references instead of looking at you like a dog that heard a high pitched sound when you mention a record or a walk-man. So someone, PLEASE, Be my Obi-wan and help me out here.  You may be my only hope.
Hello Oleary,  I run several games right now but I may have an opening to a game right now it would be run Sundays 10 - 2PM PT. I won't say how old I am but I know what this is. If you would like a taste of my game style you can look for ChubbyKoboldGaming on Twitch and view some old games.  I currently have one of two spots open for a game starting this Sunday if I can get all the prep work done in time. PM me and let me know.
Hi Oleary, Fellow 44-year-old here. I have no idea, though, what that thing above is. I run an Old School game of 1E on Sunday nights. It might be your cup of tea. Search for "The World of Apshai" on here for the full info. Or message me with questions. It's a very chill, open, older group (Everyone is 35+) and play is about having fun and exploring a bit of D&D history. Scott

Ok that is fancy
I am not sure if it will fit your style but I am throwing together a campaign based around the Black Monastery module.  The Black Monastery is an old school style sandbox dungeon of sorts.
What is your time availability?
Thiaren said: What is your time availability? Nearly any time mid week, and late evenings / nights on the weekends.  I work from home so I make my own schedule during the week, i just need family time during the weekends.
John said: Ok that is fancy I've been watching your last play session.  Looks interesting.   The only thing that concerns me is, you have one player who is summoning animals to his aide.  It's a cool concept, but over half of the playtime is spent on a single player while his minions do and take damage.  It's like he's playing 5 characters to everyone else's one.  It's very time consuming and unbalanced toward the rest of the group as they sit almost endlessly while he acts out all of his melange.   If that was somehow limited to summoning 1 creature, or removed completely, the gameplay would move twice as fast and I would be interested in running with you all since you seem like an interesting group who I could enjoy spending time with.   I know the game can be time consuming by nature, but go watch your last video on twitch and see how much of the church fight revolves around his 5 summoned goats.  It's nearly half. Like I said, very interested, but that would have to be addressed for me to remain sane on a weekly basis.

While that would be my era, I'd like to get into the modern side of the game.  5th edition or Pathfinder primarily.  I thank you for taking the time to offer though.
So Oleary if Sundays 10-2PM PT works for you we are going to be starting a 5e Dragonlance saga.
Oleary,  If you would be interested in broadening your horizon in what games you play you could take a look at joining me! I am starting up a newbie-friendly game based on World of Darkness. Not quite D&D, but its still fun. Core concepts: - Setting is based upon the Witcher series of books and games. - Expansive history and world built up by myself with a timeline spanning many centuries, details on kingdoms, people, places, things and stuff. - It is a "living game" in which the game plays more frequently, more-or-less when people want to get together and do something. - Game is played via text instead of voice in order to more seamlessly accommodate the living game type of play. It has its advantages and disadvantages like anything else. - Is very friendly for people who have atypical schedules or cannot always meet the same time every week. - Allows the use of multiple characters to avoid stagnation and stave of loss of interest. Lots of other stuff.  I've been putting a lot of time into it, so there is a lot to experience! Or you can stick with D&D, too. But it just won't be as awesome! ;)
50 years old here John.  Got ya beat.  Though we both could of started to play DnD during the famous Red Box release.  Yep as people got older with families, kids, jobs - MMOs became the thing.  Just login in and play.  But we know how those all turn out after awhile.  Now that the families are all grown up, the boys still play DnD on the weekends.  I dont play DnD though, I am still holding out for m Critical Role style group playing something other than DnD.  Hope you find your group.
Oleary, sent you a PM. And for you old guys (40+) reading this, let me know if you are interested in joining an older guys group. D&D 5e, Mondays or Tuesday (not sure of day yet), start around 8pm EDT.

I'm a player and DM of old school games, favorites being Basic D&D, and AD&D 2nd Edition. Maybe we can find a compatible game time. I've got a game group already on Mondays mid-day that might work with your schedule but unfortunately it is completely full on Players right now and we don't have an open spot. Spots come open from time to time, or there could be another game day starting up. Stay in touch.

What kind of game are you actually looking for? From what you are writing, you are not too keen on the idea of summoning, which can be a very big problem, since there is a bunch of spells and abilities (depending of course on the system) that allow you to bring in minions of various kinds, and some player character builds are quite literally build around that kind of abilities (depending of course on the system). Those do increase in power and in frequency of using as you level up. Not to mention a lot of the mobs (again, depending of course on the system) also have those abilities. Don't get me wrong, not trying to be rude here or anything, just want to know what is your idea of a game that would suit you best.

The summoning was just a peeve that I noticed.  Play is enough of a grind without 5 extra turns each, but it's not something I can't get used to if it is the norm now days.

I'm central time and that time slot is smack in the middle of me being at church with the family, unfortunately.  The weekends I'm pretty stuck with later in the evenings so I can spend the day with the family.

Not as old as some, older than others, have not played table top for years (due to lack of people at a table). Have done the online stuff, but it lacks the same feel of what enchanted me back in the 70’s. I had the red box (gave it to my nephew 10 years ago {wish I kept it for my son}) Looking for a game. I am Interested in any game to jump in to (although I prefer D&D, AD&D). Send me a message. (New to ROLL20 Site, but I am a quick study (when I am not sleeping in my armchair).
I have a D&D 5e game if you want to join, times will most likely be after 10:00 pm EST but may change. It will include heavy RP at times and there will be combat too. I can give more info about it if you wish, i base my campaigns on what the players want. So i will be taking requests from my player's of what they want to see from the game.
51 here. I run the new Modiphuis star trek, among other games, but it is full. just saying hello. Gaming for 40 years. mostly Traveller. Sci fi games.  Star Wars. had 50 crates of rpgs before i retired. sold them all. Luck to all here.  I am the official grandpa oldest guy on many discord servers.

I usually just do voice, since I don't have a web cam. I just tell people to use what they want

I'm late to the party here, but I'm a young whipersnapper of 23 who started on 2nd Edition AD&D about 9 years ago. I don't run any stuff atm that's currently "D&D"-ish, but if you want something which uses a similar engine to the current systems at release, I run 2 superhero-styled campaigns, and 2 anime-style campaigns (though I run 3 games, you do the math ;P), if those are of interest to you, and you'd like to join, just hmu. (Don't worry, we also have an old guy who's around 40)
I have room for a Fighter in our Heavy Role Playing Group, players started at Level 0, and role played into their class, you would start at level 1, most of the players are just reaching level 2. And if it's important this is Ajax I've been running Games for over 40 years and I'm 71...

Sorry you young whipper snapper, but I was playing D&D most likely before you where potty trained.  Started playing in 75.   I have never stopped playing a few times a weekend since.   I currently run two games on Roll20 and play in 2. My current games I am running are a Conan 2d20 game on late night Fridays and then a Savage Worlds game of Ultima Forsan on Sunday evenings.   Both very different games, but we welcome the young and the old, the feeble and the fit, as long as you play well with others and have fun. Thanks, Really Old Dude.
