My advice is read the DM handbook first about world building. Their are also several podcasts available you can listen to. Start small and play in it with people then build it larger.

I can't help with the mechanic side of things but if you want to discuss lore, civilization, and other world building specific stuff I can do that.   Also, the  cartographer's guild might be a good place for mapping help/references
