Session 5 Log: Sunday July 30, 2017

Recap The adventured continues in the Redbrand Hideout. Having just missed the wizard who fled the hideout's northern rooms the part briefly peeked outside and considered giving chase before deciding to head back inside and eliminate the Redbrand menace. While searching the area they find some treasure (detailed below), a book that references the magic mace Lightbringer which was one of the last weapons crafted in the Phandelver mine (now perhaps known as Wave Echo Cave), and a note that appears to have been written for the wizard (that Garad keeps): Lord Albrek, My spies in Neverwinter tell me that strangers are due to arrive in Phandalin. They could be working for the dwarves. Capture them if you can, kill them if you must, but don't allow them to upset our plans. See that any dwarven maps in their possession are delivered to me with haste. I'm counting on you, Iarno. Don't dissapoint me. ((Insiginia of a Black Spider)) The parts storms into a room (10) south of the wizard's quarters. A combination of tipping over a table full of active alchemical experiments and rolling a flaming barrel down an alley Donkey Kong style sets the western side of the hideout on fire and the party battles an assortment of bandits and bugbears with the fire nipping at their heels. Toward the end of their battle they meet a goblin named Droop who appears to have been held captive by the bugbears. Granny, Steve, & Rolen make their way toward the northern exit with Droop in tow while Recto, Garad, and Zigmundo make their way into a newly discovered eastern area of the hideout. Treasure 3 small bottles: 1 of mercury, 1 of dragon bile, and 1 of powdered nightshade. Each is worth ~25 gold. (All picked up by Rolen.) 180 silver 130 gold silk pouch containing 5 carnelians (10 gold ea.), 2 peridots (15 gold ea.), and a pearl (100 gold) a scroll of charm person a scroll of fireball Remember to make your nominations for MVP of this week's session below!
I nominate Granny for MVP for basically keeping the entire party from death and also becoming an extremely capable spider tank.
^^^^ +1
Granny for MVP.
Just totaling up the "cave loot" since last time. To cut down on negotiations I'd like to break it down for everybody and propose a split so we can just enter it into character sheets and go. Money- 56.6 silver per person (I'm fine rounding down to 56 for expdiency) - Troy- how much gold is that in your economy? 41.6 g per person (again I'm fine rounding down) Jewels- I would recommend liquidating the jewels unless we are given a reason not to fairly soon, we have 5 malachite (15gp), 5 carnelians (10gp), 2 peridots (15gp), and 1 peal (100 gp) If we were to liquidate those at town session it comes out to another 42.5 g per person, seems like gold works plenty good as a bribe in most occasions. Scrolls-  Scroll of Augury (suggested to Rolen) Scroll of Fireball (suggested to Garad (to give him a ranged option) Scroll of Charm (suggested to Granny) Other Loot- - 2 healing potions (I suggest one each to Mike and Granny since everyone else should already have one from the affair with the banshee) - 1 fancy +1 unidentified magic longsword (agree with Granny we should get this ID'd before deciding what to do with it, I picked it up so I'm holding it ATM) - 1 vial each of mercury, bile, powdered nightshade (all at 25gp)  (Rolen picked these up, I'm fine with him hanging onto them, I can concieve of us needing special ingredients at some point in the future and finding a seller could be tricky. Still a couple quick decisions needed by the group but hopefully this helps
I use the standard currencies from the PHB, so 10 copper = 1 silver 10 silver = 1 gold
> seems like gold works plenty good as a bribe in most occasions Excellent point. Liquidate! Seems like liquidating everything that nobody claims (after identification) is a sound strategy. And for MVP I nominate Rolen - turning into a giant spider to place oneself on the wall and web the bottleneck was a legit tactical move - even without the follow-up spider-tank maneuver ;)
I don't need/want a ranged option, you can give the scroll to someone else.
