[GMT+2] Newbie looking for guidance

Hi there, thanks for clicking; I'm David, from France [GMT+2]. I've been interested in TRPG for a while now, looking for a more open and freeform experience than what console and pc games can offer, but i'm a total novice. I'm rather chill and like to have fun, being inexperienced i come with no pre-conceptions and i am eager to learn, i'm looking for a game/system that's more about story and developement than math and stats. Numenera seemed like a the kind of game i was looking for but it seems rather dead at the moment. D&D 5e and Pathfinder look like the more popular games, i read parts of the Numenera and D&D player handbook but know nothing about Pathfinder. I'm okay with any type of setting, space, fantasy, modern, superheroes, etc... So my first need for help would be: What's a good game system to start with? I have a mic and my spoken english is decent, im available during the week days from 8pm to 12am-ish [GMT+2] (that's 2pm EST/11am PST), weekends are uncertain. I'm looking for a group (or person) that's willing to teach me the ropes and be patient with me while i ask many many stupid questions. Thanks for reading!
Hi Dacen, - I'm a DM that only uses 'Text Only' in their games. - I'd be more than happy to help show you the ropes in D&D 5e and roll20 if you're interested. - Drop me a message and maybe we can set aside a few hours at some point to run through the basics :)
3.5/Pathfinder is a lot more complex and more dependent on math, while 5e is generally a little bit more streamlined. The focus of a particular game can vary widely depending on the GM Good Luck!
I just joined a new player friendly game set for this friday, fingers crossed! I think a little practice will help alot with some of the questions i have. godthedj: Thanks for the offer, i will take you up on that; I'll see first how it goes with the group, the DM as some house-rules of how the campaign starts and will walk us through character creation, that should help. I'll send you a PM either way. Simon: I'm already a little overwhelmed with 5e and that's just with the basic rules! So, 3.5/Pathfinder are definately not for me haha. But i guess more rules and maths might give more depth and options, i'll keep that in mind, thanks for the insight!
I play Pathfinder. I hate math. Like. Hate. Passionately. Just sayin. Nothing else to contribute. Have a great day!
