New DM looking for ~5 Newish players for 3.5 campaign.

Hello, I am a very new DM. And by very new I mean I've hosted 3 sessions for my friends. As we can only get together about once a month I'd like to start a -hopefully- weekly game. I am in Pacific Time Zone and can be available for nearly any time of day. The exact time of play determined based on everyone's schedule. The campaign itself is a custom story and land of my design, with the odd pre-made adventure littered here and there because they look fun. It will start at level one and I honestly have no idea how high characters will get. But be ready for a long campaign. I am looking to have about 5 players as that is what I'm used to playing with, and it seems like a good number. We will be using the 3.5 system. You are allowed to use any official 3.5 supplements if you want as long as you tell me the book you got your information from. The reason I am looking for newish players is because... honestly I'm not sure. I want this to be a learning experience for everyone, me and players. You don't have to be completely new, you can have played in games before. Also please have Skype. If you're interested please leave a message here or in PM. If you have any further questions about the campaign or anything please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for your time. Edit: No evil characters. You don't have to be good. You rogue types can sneak a bit of extra coin here and there. But no murdering innocents.
Hey Richard, Good to see another GM stepping up to the plate. You might consider looking for a player who is experienced but patient. I only say this because it helped me get the hang of the game so much better in the beginning. I felt the same way you do when I started out and reluctantly accepted someone with years of experience. It was one of the best RPG decisions I've made to this day. Anyway best of luck to you and hope you have a blast.
Well, I have only been playing for about six months, but I can't exactly be considered new or inexperienced as I am definitely of the level of a veteran player. That being said, if you want someone who knows the rules well and can help as we go along, I would be a solid player.
Welcome aboard Zerocaliber! Honestly I'm not against more veteran players, I just had the feeling that my inexperience would make for a disappointing game for those more experienced. Silly thought but it appears. So we're looking for 4 more players. And thanks for the well-wishes Luke~
With so few people willing to DM, I am happy to help others learn the role and I think most of the people on roll20, especially us DMs, feel that way.
I've previously played one game of D&D but it was over a year ago. I've got the stuff for 3.5 and have been looking over it for the past week or so though. I will mention that I'm not sure how reliable of a player I would be if we need skype for video or voice chat.

One more bit of advice is that the amount of material available to players if you encompass all the 3.5 books is at least overwhelming. You might want your initial attempt to include only the PH1 and 2 and the dm guide 1. Your players will still have a multitude of choices and you will end up with a more balanced party( maybe) and a lot less stuff to look up. Just my 2 cents. But anyway game on dude and good luck.

I disagree. The problem with core is that there is a huge difference in the strengths of the different classes. You have the three most powerful classes in the game with three of the worst. Moreover, some of the easiest classes to play and the ones best to introduce new players are not in core. Ex, for first time players who want to try casters, I would recommend the Warlock or Dragonfire Adept far before Druid or Wizard.
if you dont mind someone from australia i haven't been doing this long so i might as well be completely new just need to know what i need and where i can get it skype good

Hi, Richard I'd like to join. I've only played in a few 3.5 Living Greyhawk games so I'm still pretty new.

I've played since 1977. I've DMed everything but prefer to run 2nd ed AD&D. I'm retired from the USN. I like to help new groups get off the ground, I often run teaching games. I'm running two of those here on roll20 most weeks. I like taking the actor (roleplayer) / player role in a game with a newer DM to kind of show new guys the ropes of RP, so that there is action and flavor rather than DM: "What do you do?" and they sit, waiting for NPCs to talk to them. Or they don't know what to do in a sandbox world so just become criminals: "I bash dude X on the head and loot his corpse. Then cut his throat then run from the cops." When the guy and no one in the party are rouges, and are mostly neutral to good. I'm lucky that I tend to get good players, that want to fight okay, but they build and grow with the story arcs that they mostly decide on. Is this campaign to be mostly story or combat or puzzle? OR what kind of mix, even an estimate? DM plot centered or player centered? How much freedom will the characters have? I see it's no Evil. I assume it is also no player vs. player. Prefer both of those, i.e we are generally heroes working together. What days or nights would this be? I'm ideally seeking something along the lines of: A game not run friday or saturday (I run AFMBE, and 2e AD&D those days via roll20) Something during the week, because if I also game sunday the Scottish wife will decapitate me with a freakin' claymore. Starting from initially low levels something that lasts. If I hit name level or lord of anything, I'd retire, so that guy becomes a textured NPC. Seeking a game with characters though some might be combat centered with only a sketch history, each person has a flavor and that flavor is not , "I wanna kill those losers in my party I tricked into travelling with me" nor "I am full of angst and secretly wish this was Vampire the masquerade, so i play it like i'm so depressed the other pcs want me to off myself...but I have hope that one day, I might find solace in the arms of the demon whose child i will birth." No thanks. I don't mind battles as long as they mean something more than XP. "We hold the bridge to let the prince pass through to safety, we attack the tower to kill the bandit lord to make it safe for caravans... Even we go forth to yon dungeon to get rich, killing stuff along the way." But I gotta say I loathe the kind of "we are walking along the road, and out of nowhere we get jumped, by surprise, and they kill most of us, so that the DM can prove that he can throw a LVL 4 encounter at some new guys, so that they reroll combat monsters." if you get my drift. I like a game that has some sense of history, who is running the kingdom, and we as character have a place more than 4 sellswords waiting to die in some muddy field. I usually play a warrior dwarf, or human, or some sort of elvish guy that is good with a bow, or a halfling, sometimes a rogue Whatever the party needs. I like to play the cautious voice of reason, who can be passionate when whipped up to take on the bad guys.. for a reason. Yeah, so mostly the thing is the day it will run. And If I got too much experience, that's cool. Just want to help out, and your post is a rare non pushy seeming setup, just looking for new information, and not looking for hack and slash period. If I'm not your guy to add, bravo, let a new guy who wants to get into a game sign up in my stead, we need to train up the new players. Anyway, if days and stuff can be matched up, I'm a good resource. Luck with it, in any case. Happy holidays.
If anyone wants to play a Brand New System let me know. DND Fantasy style: It's called DALRUAN. I just posted here on the Forums: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/540397/i-cast-ma...
Is there still a position open? I'm new to the game, and would like a good place to get my feet wet, and gain some experience before joining in public, experienced matches and ruining everything.
only way you ruin it is to be a no call no show. if you are there playing whatever, helping out, it works. Welcome to the community, Eric B.
Thank you very much.
Hi Richard, Great work taking the initiative to run some games. I'm in the same boat as you. Currently looking for DMs interested in collaborating with me to make an intro campaign. PM me if you're interested in doing less work and having someone to bounce ideas off of.
I thank everyone who has taken an interest in this game. I shall be in contact with people within the day to discuss playtimes etc. So as of now this game is full. I'll make another post if players need to drop out for any reason.
