The default font color doesn't show up very well when set against image maps. Since the font family/size/color selector only shows up when you use the selection tool, it took me a while to figure out that these could even be changed. Might want to make that selector control appear while in text entry mode.
Since I didn't know about the selector control, I started poking around in the style attributes. Adding a white text-shadow (or other border effect) a few px wide to the default text style looked slightly better, at least when the font color was black instead of the default gray. Also, while I was digging around in there, I noticed that text boxes that become empty don't auto-delete themselves. This might be a good idea, since I apparently ended up with a few dozen empty text boxes that were no longer visible.
