Character creation guidelines: Sourcebook: RIFTs, Ultimate Edition. If you have a previous one, we'll adjust to any changes in the rules. Races: Any in the book. Classes: Any in the book. Note some races end up being the class. While a human can take a character class...a dragon hatchling cannot, not that they need one... For those not familiar with the setting it is a post-apocalyptic Earth (or parallel Earth). Magic and tech so advanced it is considered magic abound. What happened before: Earth was in a golden age. Then, for reasons lost to history, dimensional rifts appeared. These rips in the fabric of space-time resulted in complete and utter chaos as entities benevolent and benign entered our realm. Now: The current calendar is 110 PA which is post-apocalypse. Major players: Coalition States: High-tech, authoritarian, society whose basic tenet is homo-sapiens over all. Empire of Man, Imperium Est. Public are kept ignorant and continually taught that all non-humans are evil abominations to be reported and destroyed. In reality, even those in charge of enforcing some of the more extreme laws sometimes look the other way...though not if they are going to get caught. Not everyone in the fortress cities shares equally in the prosperity. Many less fortunate, or those wanting a bit more freedom away from the spying eyes of the government end up in the surrounding Burbs (suburbs). Tolkeen: Former major power. High magics, psionics, and all races welcome. Ended up being a polar opposite in ideology to Coalition States. The CS-Tolkeen war destroyed them resulting in large masses of refugees and other consequences still being dealt with. Lazlo: Small independent community that is open to all. Many supernaturals, or others that are not allowed in the Coalition can hail from here. Psyscape: Your mind shall be a terrible thing to lay waste. Psionics rule here. Society is more loose and not authoritarian. Quebec. Similar in tech to Coalition States, however not as extreme as the CS and is currently independent. Setting for the players: I plan to make the first session a world-building and character creation session. Going to invite everyone here and see what availability looks like. I decided to put the creation guidelines on hold until I have a better idea what folks want to play. First session tentatively set for this Saturday starting noon Pacific Time (early folks welcome). If that doesn't work let me know and we'll see what works for the most folks...
