Starting a new game

Hey folks, I'm in the process of starting a new game. I already have two or three players, buddies from where I went to graduate school, plus (maybe) my wife. It's still at least several weeks out before starting, but I wanted to see if any of you would be interested. Right now, the system and setting are up in the air. For anyone that is joining, I'm letting them dictate a few facts about the scenario such that the world is a collaborative effort. So far, it sounds like it's going to be heavy on combat, tactics, and use of miniatures - potentially airborne steampunk / fantasy combat. It would be on Tuesday nights, using TableTopSimulator as the online platform. I have several extra copies and could give one to anyone interested that wanted one. If you are interested, just say so, and add then a few suggestions about what kind of game setting / scenario is most interesting to you.
i am, so are we looking at a steam punk with air ship ? love it, do you have an idea which game mechanics you will be using?
The setting is not yet defined - as it will be decided upon by the players. Since I don't know of any system that would handle even what has been proposed so far, it would probably be homebrew. Regarding the desire for airborne combat, the specifics of that idea would involve each player controlling their own airborne platform - whether that be griffins, dragons, steampunk vehicles, biplanes, or whatever. World creation will figure out the details. If you are interested, please add your own ideas / preferences to the mix. What is an important part of your favorite games?
I'm up for it. My favorite part would be it not being D&D. I am still burnt out on that game...and I haven't played it in 15-20 years. I like being able to use relevant skills to move the story. A good throwdown now and again keeps it interesting too.
Wow i was thinking that modern D20 would be a good system to use for this..
d20 isn't an issue, fantasy is. d20 is d20 is d20. It can be applied to any genre. Swords, sorcery and LARP'ers, just ugh.
I have an idea of a campaign setting Call Universe 26 that would support a Steam Punk campaign Universe 26 Far in the future, Sol has undergone stellar evolution and now is a white dwarf. The remnant of mankind had escape to the Kuniper and Oort Cloud. They under went the process of building a dyson Sphere around the Sun. 24 experimental environments were created to test the final world that would be created, Universe 25 as it became known by was a utopian paradise, power by white dwarf at its core. But after several millennium society collapsed, human kind was never meant to live in such a society. The reform society called universe 26 has lost the super advance technology of their ancestors and have advance to a level of technology similar to early 20 th century. Due to small size of the Dyson sphere created the gravity is much lower than 1 g (around 1/3 g) and many of transparent species have evolve to using flight to get around. Even species of human with wings ( called bird people) have come into being. Light from the internal sun is beam via light pipes ( that take the form of mountains) and artificial mirrors orbit the planet create a pattern of day and night. These light pipe also allow the destruction of dangerous waste by allowing a person to drop any item straight into the dwarf star at the core. Like Larry Niven’s Ringworld the new world is huge allowing a wide range of habitant, and due to light gravity airships are the preferred way to get around. The size has also allow a wide range of evolutionary divergent and mutation is common due to higher than normal background radiation With the Collapse of universe 25 many humans escaped to remaining comets and planetoid, they are a menace to the surface dweller as one group of survivors called the “beautiful ones” have lost the drive to mate and raid the Mega planet for the young of other human communities for children to maintain their civilization.
Pete, if I understand you, you would like to veto the fantasy genre. The first step in collaborative setting is vetoing what you don't want, so once we have a list together, you can nix that first thing (if anyone suggest it). Edwin, since the setting will be collaborative, I'll try to boil some items out of your idea. Seems like you like far-future sci-fi with a focus on speculative settings? Also interested in "gingered" humans, especially as villains. Also use of environment to explain otherwise strange physics effects. Hmm... reminds me a lot of "Last Exile". My current plan is to start a new Roll20 forum specifically for collaborative planning. I have 4 to 6 more players that are potentially interested, so I'll invite them as well. Several of them are on the fence - they may want to be involved in setting design, but not actually play. In any case, I expect the new forum to pop up later today. I'll send out invites when it does.

Here's the link to the new Roll20 game. However, as I said above, the game itself won't be run through Roll20. It's going to be through TableTopSimulator. Just using Roll20 for the forums. Gotta get something outta my subscription. :D https://app.roll20.net/join/2516920/Gu7PDg
Has anyone played Fading Suns? I really liked the setting as it has worlds that are still horse and carriage fiefdoms all the way up to alien race advanced technology with everything from swords to laser/plasma blasters, includes magic, psionics and faith. Think Firefly meets Star Wars meets Stargate (which there.) The system has a d20 and a d6 version. I like the idea of systems that allow for cross-genre settings and it makes sense. Not sure what I will play, it all depends on what we settle on and where. Also, what's needed. CR
