I'm putting together an online group to run the DnD 5e starter adventure, Lost Mines of Phandelver on Roll20. I am a decently experienced DM but by no means a pro yet. I figured running some published adventures via Roll20 will be a fun, quick way to get some games in and hone my DMing abilities. Why not start at the beginning with a tried and true campaign? I used Roll20 in my home games as a virtual battlemap so I'm already fairly familiar with it. I am looking to find between 4 and 5 players for this campaign. I want to recruit new and experienced alike, so if you have minimal DnD experience do not be afraid to apply! I will be running this on Wednesday each week starting between 9 and 9:30pm PST, each session lasting around 3 hours until about midnight. If time allows and everyone is available I am open to running on additional days as well. Expectations: - You need to be able to more or less create your own character. That includes Race, Class, and Background. I'm more than happy to help you put the finishing touches or answer questions you have. If you want to play a premade character , go for it. - You don't have to be a master of the rules, but please have somewhat of a basic grasp of them. - In the same vein as above, know your characters abilities or have references ready on hand. I have cheat sheets, resources, and references available! - I reward heavily for RP! Make a cool background and be ready to RP your character and have fun with it! - Have a microphone that sounds decent and ability to use Discord . In game rules/homebrew: - Anything from the official rulebooks. If you want to play a monstrous character from Volo's please have a great background ready for why. No Yuan-Ti. No Unearthed Arcana except for the revised Ranger class . - I'll have you pick from a list of Personal Goals from the premade characters in the adventure to build into your character's background. These tie into fun quests. - We'll be using point buy to allocate ability score points. - No Variant Human BUT Humans get +1 additional ability score of your choice on top of their +1 to all ability scores, as well as 1 skill proficiency of your choice. - All players get to start with one feat of their choice at level 1! This feat must fit into the background/flavor of your character. No Alert, Lucky, or Observant feats at level 1. - Alert feat only gives +3 to initiative instead of 5. Observant feat only gives +3 to Investigation/Perception instead of 5. - No multiclassing. A few quick and dirty rules for my table: 1. This is a team game. Every action you take should keep in mind the fun of everybody else at the table. You're expected to roll a character that will actively work with your team. 2. No murder hobos. No edgelords. No total loner characters (a loner background is fine enough, but you need to have a reason why you need/want to interact with your team). 3. No overly sexual roleplaying. Roleplaying you flirting with or trying to bone every NPC you come across isn't fun, I don't want to do it. All that being said I am a pretty reasonable guy. I'm most likely going to go along with anything you might want to do in the confines of the adventure we're running, and within reason of course. HOW TO APPLY: Read the instructions carefully. Please private message me your application. Any applications posted in this thread or not following these parameters will be ignored. Please ask any questions you may have in this thread. I'm looking to run session 0 next Wednesday August 30th, hopefully starting the adventure as well. To Apply, Please send me a private message with answers to the following questions to the best of your ability: Preferred Name (can be an alias): Time Zone: A) Describe yourself and a bit about your roleplaying experience B) Describe what you enjoy most about Tabletop RPGs, or what you look forward to most when you play C) Describe any type of character concept you have in mind 1) Would you ever consider running a game? If not, why not? 2) Have you ever had a bad Dungeon Master? What did they do that was bad? 3) If you disagreed with the DM about a ruling, what would you do? 4) What published DnD settings are you well versed in, if any? BONUS: Navigate to Chaotic Shiny or Who The $%^# Is My DnD Character and generate a character. Write a one paragraph backstory (including name, race and class) based upon this randomized description. Thank you for your effort! If you don't get in, my recommendation is to reuse what you just wrote to apply for other games. Just a tip! :)
