Session 8 Notes: August 27, 2017

So not to replace an official recap of the evening (which are consistently excellent) but I wanted to got some things down as a record. Granny gave a rousing speech to the village of Phandalin, encouraging them to rejoice that a great weight of oppression had been lifted from the town (Steve used it as a cheap opportunity to plug the party's new inn). After a night of revelry the party (newly enabled by their trusty mount, Dr. Fat Horse) decided to attack Kragmaw Castle, in the hopes that Gundren Rockseeker was somehow still alive in there. The party (plus Handsy the Imp) made short work of the entry into Kragmaw. The hordes of goblins inside were approximately as effective as goblins the the Lord of the Rings movies, mainly serving as an opportunity for the party to do cool things and compete for body count. As the night closed, goblin corpses were EVERYWHERE, the presumptive leader of the first order of goblins had been subdued and restrained, and Steve had alerted the party that Handy could hear approaching noises on the other side of the Kragmaw foyer doors. I could certainly support an MVP vote for Zigi, for sharpshooting, or for Garad for body count (including our first double kill!), but I'm going to nominate Granny, whose bless enabled many goblin deaths that would not otherwise have occurred and made a bunch of us look like total badasses.
I still have not added any gold from the redbrand hideout. How much do i add?

Suggested "Night's Watch" schedule while traveling. This gives Ziggy and I the 4 hours of meditation we need, and everyone else gets 8 hours. I realize we only have 2 people on first watch, but it's our most resilient combo (most HP, and Rolen can heal). They can probably survive long enough to wake us up. Watch 1 = Garad, Rolen Watch 2 = Recto, Doom Spark, Granny Watch 3 = Recto, Doom Spark, Steve
Mike, to answer your question, after the party all chipped in on travel expenses and on the 50g needed to have Zigi permanently have an "identify" spell in his spell book everyone will have 57g, 17s, 9c, (in addition to whatever they had before we started all this) except for Steve Darkmagic, who has 10g less than that for summoning Handsy.
Order of watch works for me. Thanks for figuring that out for us. Also minor rules note for Rolen's benefit, dungeons are at least a little dire-wolf friendly :D See " Squeezing Into A Smaller Space " on page 192 of the phb, but basically you can squeeze through spaces/passages one size category smaller than you if you're OK with: double movement cost per foot disadvantage on attack rolls and dex saves attacks made against you have advantage Because similarly to how people aren't actually 5' cubes, dire wolves (and other large creatures) aren't 10' cubes. That's just the amount of space you control on the grid, not your physical dimensions. Of course certain passages/doorways/cliff edges/dodgy rope bridges are probably still too small, according to DM discretion.
Excellent find Xie. Those are some rough penalties, but they may be worth it for Rolen if he is just navigating from A to B through a tight hallway.
